3469And that's the most recent attempt...I miss you Kate.. I have tried so many times, I'd be losing track if I didn't have the journal! For some reason, I can't seem to become a god the past few hundred attempts. It wouldn't be so bad if only becoming a god wasn't necessary to save me from dying to that dreadful dragon. This attempt I'll be... a kitsune. Nice. Haven't been one of those in a long time. I just hope it'll go well this time... I just wish I didn't lose my memories every time. It would make things much simpler...
I woke up after a quick but low quality nap. I had a fuzzy dream about a girl named Kate. It doesn't matter anyways. These damned dreams distract me from my mission. I watched from my vantage point in the trees slightly above the cave entrance as a party made of dwarves, elves and a dragon were all surrounding my target. A tall vampire lady stood in the middle of the group. After they entered the cave, I equipped my bow from my inventory and jumped down to follow behind them. I followed behind them carefully, making sure not to make even my breathing noticeable. After analyzing the way the lesser dire wolves that inhabited the cave fought I judged they were about level 30-36. While the other party members collected the drops from the wolves the vampire went off to go check the surroundings. I used one of my 8 tails to check my bag for the vial of poison I brought with me. I carefully poured the liquid over my arrows and followed after the vampire. I stared at the vampire and waited for her to let her guard down. As soon as she was about to turn around I shot my arrow towards her neck. The arrow hit its mark causing her to howl in pain. I watched as the veins in her neck bulged as the poison got to work. I quickly got out of the way as the poison reverted her into a feral vampire. She dashed past me and towards her party members. Now that the target and the witnesses were dead I was ready to leave or so I thought as the damage she caused while freaking out about getting shot by an arrow caused the floor to burst open. I fell for roughly 8 minutes before bumping into a rock on the way down causing me to break a few ribs. Not long after that I hit the ground landing on feet as I did. Even though it hurt to walk I continued to walk anyway to try and find a safe area to use a healing spell at. I ended up at the door to an underground dungeon. It was marked with the symbol of a shark. I noticed the symbol immediately as the dungeon that Assassin Lord Ronko had me kill a target in. Since clearing the dungeon was cleared mid mission it should have been abandoned and thus safe from monsters. I opened the cold stone doors and wandered through the damp hallways that dripped with magic dense water. I sat down in a drier corner of a hallway and began using magic on my injuries. Unfortunately my magic wasn't strong enough to completely heal my ribs so I would need to bandage it up for a few days for it to be back to normal.
After a short rest I got back up and continued walking. I found the boss room that I was looking for and was getting ready to use the teleporter in it. Before I could use it I saw a status window appear in front of me.
"You have been nominated as the king of the [Ancient Seas Dungeon]."
I didn't quite know what that meant but I didn't really care because I was intent on using the teleporter. I didn't even notice but while I was reading the notification the teleporter disabled itself. I was rather annoyed at that fact. With no other option I decided to wait for it to reactivate. While I waited I sat on the throne but as I did all of the torches lining the walls suddenly lit up with a flame that looked more like water than fire. I got up quickly as the sound of footsteps echoed through the throne room. A humanoid ran up to me and began to speak.
"It is nice to meet the new dungeon lord!" They said,
I looked at the humanoid who upon further inspection was actually a hypno shark that was possessing the body of an adventurer.
"Y-You better expwain what's going on and how to get out of here Lord Kokon is waiting for me to return." I said.
I internally cringed at my voice as that fact I hadn't used it properly in a few years mixed with my lack of practice speaking in general caused me to gain a minor speech impediment that made me sound like a little kid. It also sounded pretty effeminate. It was no voice an assassin should have. As the various thoughts raced through my head the shark began to speak.
"Well your highness you have been nominated the king of the dungeon! You can activate the teleporter and leave once you properly put this dungeon under your control. Also did you say you have a lord? That can't do! You're the dungeon lord so you must get rid of your connection to that person immediately." They exclaimed.
I felt a bolt of fear pierce through me. I couldn't betray the lord he saved me. I owed him my life. The very thought shook me to my core. I shook my head to clear my thoughts and so I could think about this properly. Maybe I could be myself, maybe just for a little.... I'd take a small break, a very very small break. I opened up the system menu and took a look to see if anything changed.
