"Oh god," you mumbled to yourself as the plane left the tarmac of LAX, gripping tightly to the ends of the armrests that were on each side of your seat. "Are you okay?" a young brunette woman asked as you turned your attention to her. You knew who she was the moment she sat down next to you but if you didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable. "Ye-yeah...I just...oh god!" you spoke as the plane adjusted its height more, "hate this part of flying" you added once one of the many waves of nerves finished washing over you. The green-eyed woman chuckled to herself before placing her right hand on top of your left, "it's okay, I have done this many times and I can promise you it'll be fine in just a moment" she spoke with comfort.
"I've done this like 6 times at the most and every damn time I get so anxious" you replied as you took a deep breath in, trying to calm the building anxiety inside. "It took me a few times to get used to it, you'll get used to it too" you felt her smile at you while you had your eyes closed. Within a few short minutes, the plane was levelled, and you felt relieved the worst part was over. "Thank you for that" you smiled at the brunette as she removed her hand from yours. "I'm Y/n" you introduced yourself. "Florence" she spoke softly. "It's lovely to meet you, out of all places" you smiled, you noticed she seemed a little off now she'd introduced herself. "I didn't mean it like that, I mean, I just, I won't lie I am a fan of your work" you started to studder, worried that you had now made her uncomfortable. "It's okay, Y/n, I know what you meant" she finally smiled at you. "Thank you for your support, it's nice to meet you as well" she added.
"I do want to make it clear I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable though, it wasn't my intention" you expressed your apology. Florence slightly lent over to your left ear and whispered, "the lady in front of me has pushed her chair back, I wasn't annoyed with you, but I have little leg space right now". "Oh, right" you whispered back, "here, take my seat" you offered but Florence shook her head, "it's fine, I'll just be that annoying passenger that asks the flight attended to talk to her" she whispered once more.
"Are you heading home?" you asked, shifting the conversation so the older lady didn't suspect anything. "I am, I just finished doing some press tours so I'm very keen to head home for a little while" she replied, "what about you, what brings you on this 11-hour flight?" she added.
"Actually, it's my first time visiting the UK! I've been planning this for a year"
"That's exciting! Are you doing one of those touring groups?"
"I thought about it but then when I told my grandma that I was coming she insisted that I stay with them, my grandparents and they'd show me around"
"It sounds like you'll have a lovely time, how long do you plan on staying?"
"2 weeks. I have to prepare for a new job when I get back so it's just go, go, go for me right now" you chuckled slightly.
"Sometimes it's good to keep ourselves busy! What do you do?"
"I agree, I hate when my weekdays blend with my weekends too much, it can be very stressful! I'm a vet, a new vet clinic has opened closer to where I live so now, I won't have to drive an hour to and from work"
"I feel the same! I can't cope when weekdays become weekends and I feel I haven't done much throughout the day!"
For hours you and Florence talk about things that interested you both, talking about shows and movies you'd both see and ones you are excited about, Florence shared some tips that helped her break up the time whenever weekdays would turn to weekends, she also told you the best places to visit while exploring the UK.
Soon the 11-hour flight felt like it was a 2-hour flight. Both you and Florence drifted off into an uncomfortable nap for a few hours before waking up to the pilot announcing he will begin to land in 10 minutes and to expect a slightly bumpy landing.
"Here we go, part two of the worst part" you mumbled to yourself, Florence laughed lightly as she took your hand once more, "just breath, it's just the plane lowering itself" she spoked, running her thumb over your knuckles. As the plane started to lower your grip tightened once more on the armrests beside you. Florence distracted you by talking about her dog, Billie who she called her fur baby. "I love whenever I'm cooking, she lies at my feet waiting for any scraps to fall" she spoke, "dogs will do that" you smiled as you felt your nerves subsiding. "You think this is bad, you should sit in the car when Billie farts, it's so bad!" Florence added causing you to laugh, "yeah I think I'd take this over that idea" you replied, loosening your grip on the armrests. "See, I told you, it's not that bad! Look at how calm you are now" Florence smiled, still rubbing her thumb over your knuckles.
"Thank you" you smiled back at her. As the plane finally came to a landing the other passengers started to pack away the small ideas they brought aboard with them. "This might sound a little crazy and you can totally say no but I really enjoyed your company and I was wondering if I could get your number?" Florence asked as she slowly removed her hand from yours. "Sure, of course!" you replied, trying not to sound over-excited over the idea of Florence Pugh having your number. Flo handed you her phone so you could punch in your details before handing it back to her. "I'll just send you the turd emoji so you can save my number," she said just before your phone buzzed, "thanks!" you smiled before saving the unknown number as a new contact.
The plane came to a complete stop as everybody started to stand from their seats, grabbing their luggage from the storage above them and exiting the plane. "If you're ever in or around Oxford during your stay, text me! Maybe we could grab a cuppa tea or something" Florence smiled as she walked with you through the airport. "I'd love that!" you smiled once more at her before you saw your grandparents waiting for you with big smiles of their own. "Well, Y/n, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you! Take care, hopefully, we'll see each other again soon!" Florence said before hugging you. Slightly taken back by her gesture, you hugged her back, "If we don't end up catching up in Oxford, maybe we can grab a smoothie back in LA?" you spoke as you both pulled away from each other, "Absolutely!!" Florence added excitingly before you heard your grandparents call your name with excitement. "Bye for now" Flo added as you watched her walk away.
"Who was that?" your grandma asked as you walked over to your grandparents, hugging them tightly. "That, nan, was Florence Pugh" you smiled. "Oh I loved her in that movie about her killing her husband!" she replied with a sparkle in her eyes, "a very talented young woman she is" your grandma added. "I have no clue who she's talking about" your grandfather threw a smile as he picked up one of your bags.
