Third Person P.O.V
Inside the Wards
"Why won't you let us through?" Jacob demanded Miranda as she and Lisa stood firm.
"Ellie needs to do this on her own," Miranda sighed, and he growled low.
"You knew about this?" His eyes shifted from ocean blue to blood red in seconds. His wolf appeared, muscles tensed, ready to break free.
"I know you don't like the idea, but like it or not, she's the only one who can save us all. I could make you the finest weapons in the world, but they mean nothing against destroyers of worlds. Your mortal weapons won't work. Unfortunately, there are no known weapons that have any effect. Ellie has powers; she can protect herself and this pack far better than we ever could. I don't know how to explain it, but this is her fight," Miranda said.
Jacob's anger grew. The more he thought about it, the more desperate he felt to run to her, to pull her back to safety. His wolf paced inside him, restless. He missed her more than usual when she wasn't near. The thought of her facing Iron Fist, Virexus, alone ignited a fierce fire of fury.
"You should've told me!" Jacob yelled.
Lisa stepped in front of Miranda to defend her. "She knew you would react this way."
Jacob finally registered Lisa's presence. "You knew?" His voice cracked, eyes wild with disbelief and anger.
"Yes, I knew. She made us promise not to tell you," Lisa replied firmly.
Jacob struggled to accept that Ellie wanted to keep this from him, didn't want his help.
"Why would she-" he began, but stopped himself. He already knew the answer.
"You still should've told me. I'm the Alpha of this pack. If there is a plan, you tell me!" His tone raised his voice in frustration.
Lisa stepped forward confidently, not showing that she was afraid. "With all due respect, Alpha, you're not just an Alpha to her. You're the man she loves. And in the short time I've known Ellie, I know she would do anything to protect the ones she loves. She knows you'd walk through fire for her. She's counted on it. But you're not ordinary wolves. You're not just warriors."
"You are an Alpha, with an army and a pack to protect. Losing you in a battle meant for her wouldn't just break her; it would shatter this pack. I'm sorry, but you do not have the luxury of standing with her right now. We know you want to fight. We know you want to keep her safe. But you can't. She loves you enough to make sure you and the pack survive." Lisa's words did more for him than she would ever know.
"She can still win this, don't lose faith now." Lisa finished, though inside, her hands trembled. Never before had she stood up to anyone higher than her, not even Kyle.
Jacob listened, the truth sinking in, but anger still simmered beneath the surface.
"What if you're wrong?" he asked through clenched teeth.
Lisa sighed, shrugging. "Then I suggest you ready your warriors for the battle of their lives."
Jacob looked toward Miranda. "If anything happens to her, it will not end well for you." He stepped forward. "To be blunt, if she dies, so do you." His gaze burned into Miranda's, then Lisa's, "and you." She understood why he threatened her. He had all right to.
Lisa exhaled deeply once Jacob was out of earshot and turned to Miranda. She noticed Jake, her mate, standing nearby.
"Well done," Miranda said quietly.
Suddenly-
Bang!
They all gasped. The wards were weakening.
