Ellie's P.O.V
Wolves and rogues clashed across the battlefield, howls, snarls, and screams filled the air. Blood soaked the ground. Most of our warriors were down. The rogues kept coming.
I gripped the wand tighter. The sun would rise soon.
I still had just enough time to make it to Miranda's and give her the wand, just enough time to save Lizzy.
But by the time I got back... the pack might not be here anymore.
Or maybe they'd still be holding on.
They could last a little longer, right? I could do this. Drop the wand off. Come back. Fight.
Just as I turned to run, a howl pierced the air —sharp, pained.
I turned back.
Jacob.
He was on the ground, a massive wolf clamped onto his shoulder. Not just any wolf, Kyle, the rogue leader.
My heart twisted. I could help him. I should help him. But... Lizzy.
What should I do?
Do I run to save Lizzy, save myself, or do I stay, knowing it could cost her everything?
"Help them," Lizzy said, her voice suddenly clear in my head.
"Lizzy... What about you?" I asked.
"I've waited three years... I can wait a little longer." Her voice was weak, but certain. I closed my eyes.
"Go. Save our pack."
When she cut the connection, I tucked the wand deep into my pocket.
"I'll come back for you," I whispered.
Then I ran.
Straight toward Jacob.
I slammed into Kyle, tearing him off Jacob and hurling him across the clearing. He crashed into a tree but recovered fast, shaking it off with a growl.
"Stay down until you heal," I said through the pack's mind link.
"What?" Jacob replied, confused.
I didn't answer. I grabbed my sword and turned back to Kyle.
He shifted into his human form and smirked, tugging on a shirt tied around his leg.
"Well, well," he said. "Look who decided to play the hero. The. Ellie. Hudson."
I stepped forward, blade raised. "You did you're research? Good."
He ducked suddenly and slammed his fist into my stomach. I stumbled, dropping my sword. He moved to strike again, but I dodged, drove my fist into his ribs. A crack echoed. He gasped. I grinned and followed with a punch to the face, a knee to his gut, and slammed him to the ground.
"For a rogue leader, you're pretty weak in human form," I muttered, grabbing my sword and raising it high.
I let out a cry and drove it down, straight for his chest.
But something flashed in my peripheral vision.
Steel.
Another blade slammed into mine, stopping the strike cold.
A figure stepped between us, a girl. She smiled and shoved me back.
Kyle rose beside her, grinning. "Thought you'd come running to save your precious Alpha. That's why I brought someone who can actually match you."
