Rapid but faint footsteps could be heard, shallow breathing was performed as the lady was running past the trees, in the middle of the forest, carrying her two-year-old daughter, she was panicking. She didn't know what to do.
"M-Mama!" Her baby was crying.
"Don't worry! We'll be safe as long as we're together, okay?" She panted, and still kept running.
They were being chased by hunters, along with the help of the dragons. They hunt the two because, the mother accused being dragon that transforms into a human, and her daughter was being assumed to have that ability too.
And they weren't wrong.
The mother and daughter's kind were much rarer than those Furies. The Night Furies and the Light Furies were more of an alphas that controls the dragons, then it might be worse for the mother and child.
But they were considered weaker than those Furies, as they witnessed the battle between them multiple times.
The two couldn't manage to escape, as they were dragons roaming around in the sky along with the riders.
The little one was crying, all the mother could do was to caress her hair and "shush" her in a gently way, while she was tired already.
She checked the sky and she could see the dragons flying. Even a Night Fury was there with them.
The Night Fury was very fast and he landed in front of them.
He transformed into a human.
"Y-You're one of us too!?" The mother asked.
He only smirked and never spoke, but his stare showed bloodlust. He never wanted to capture them, but kill them instead.
She dropped the toddler as she sobbed louder than before.
"Mama!" She cried in fear.
"I'm sorry." She whispered as the night fury made his move. "Run!"
The mother's tears crawled down her cheeks as she blocked the enemy's attack. "I said run!"
Due to panic, the child followed her mother's command. She was clueless about what was happening, but she knew she'd be alone and she hated it.
She didn't want to leave her mother's side.
"Aw... She's so fast! Look at her run!" The Night Fury said in a sarcastic tone. After all, the toddlers haven't developed their strength to perform such tasks.
And so the mother thought, she'll hold them off until her daughter was far enough.
. . .
The kid had ran for long due to her panic, she was lost in the middle of the forest.
"Mama..." She mumbled, rubbing her eyes with both of her hands. She was alone but the creatures of the forest, the light that had come from the full moon had barely touched her skin.
The child was cold, as it was the start of the winter, white flecks on the golden, dried leaves were in front of her eyes as she walked slowly. She was tired.
She wanted to go back, but she wasn't told to.
Her arms were shivering already, as well as her exhales as she could see her own breath.
Out of nowhere, she heard a faint scream.
She turned around as she got alarmed, fully aware of her surroundings.
Then, she heard it again, but this time it was clearer. It was her name that someone was screaming of.
A figure slowly appeared in her vision, with the shape of her mother. "Mama!"
Both of them were happy that they saw each other once again. The mother grabbed the child as she continued running.
"Mama!" It was all the child could say as she cried and hugged her mother.
"Oh, I miss you two sweetie!" She shouted, there still too many hunters chasing them. Then after what it felt like hours of chasing, she found the dead end of the forest, what's next was the cliff. "Close your eyes!"
Her daughter did so, the wings of the Light Fury popped out from her back as she finally stepped outside the forest.
She jumped as she had a very tight grip of her daughter. She smiled as they thought everything's alright now, as if they had escaped.
But she was wrong, she thought she should've realized it sooner.... As the mother left an empty expression as she was shot by a large arrow with a rope attached to the tail.
She realized she couldn't escape this as she felt she was being pulled by a large number of hunters, eventually she'll get caught along with her daughter.
But she wouldn't let it happen, at least she wanted her child to be safe.
For the last time, she threw her high up in the air, as the child stared at her mother.
"Fly, Yeji!" As if her voice echoed, as if the time had slowed down, this would be the last time she would see her mother.
She fell, due to her heightened emotions, her wings bursted out of her back, she hissed because of the pain it caused, and those white wings were covered in blood. It was her first time her she had wings, yet it was only semi-transformation.
It spread out, the wingspan was twice longer than her body.
Her eyes glowed as she could feel the heat from her stomach to her throat. Then she accidentally breathed out fire that shaped like a comet, it fired on the ground as it exploded.
The little one hit the ground too hard shortly after, got caught in an explosion she caused, and barely survived, but her wings reduced the impact.
The toddler was nowhere to be found after that, but her mother passed away.
. . .
"Mommy."
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Dragons don't transform into humans, Mommy."
"Oh ho..." The mother blushed as she got embarrassed by your fact. "Th-That's just a children's story for you to sleep."
"But Mommy, I'm scared." You blurted out, she knew she told a fantasy story that wasn't for kids. Indeed it wasn't a children's story.
But that story had passed down to generations, it was their family tradition, although the family had no clue why they had to passed it down.
They said it was a message, they said it was a clue to find an answer to a question that they didn't even heard of, they said it was a lesson.
Little did the family know, the story was based on a true event.
