━━━ SHEILA BENNETT WAS, IN MOST WAYS, MY FAMILY

She loved Sammy like a son, I like a daughter. She taught me all the magic she could, helped me study, looked after Sam whenever he was sick, or Griffin was in a particular foul mood. She comforted me after Donna and Billy left and when I first arrived, she helped me through my speaking problems after I left London and was adopted by Griffin.

Because damn if my life back in London wasn't traumatising.

She was my mentor. A caretaker when mine abandoned me, a part of my family. She was one of those witches who encouraged balance so although she could choose to see me, she never did. And I never saw her. She died for me the same time she died for everyone else, and it left me full of grief.

I think Griffin understood this—my grief—and he let me go. I needed time away from everything that was Mystic Falls. Ghosts, Rue, prophecies, vampires. I let it all go and just left. I had said my goodbyes to Sammy and Griffin, leaving Mystic Falls without a word to anyone else, to my one comfort place in the whole entire world.
