When the dsmp (dream smp) first started, it was not really about a story line. Famous minecraft speedrunner, Dream, wanted to actually play and enjoy the game with his good friend, George. They explored the new nether update and died a LOT while doing so. Their spawn was right by a lava pit which was teraformed to look cool later. They used the lava pool to make a portal early on, and that portal is where the main portal is now.
Later they invited Sapnap to join them, then Callahan, then AweSamdude (aka sam), and It'sAlyssa (aka Alyssa), then Dropsbyponk (aka ponk), and finally BadBoyHalo whom we usually just call Bad. Together they made the original 8, or the founding 8. The server flourished and peace was widespread.
It was just called the server or the smp. No real name at the time. A few major builds were built, including but not limited to the community house, which is still very important. Also the courthouse, which is also important.
Everything was peaceful and the server actually was picking up interest because fans were seeing the streamers true selves, not speed running or striving for a goal, but enjoying themselves.
The peace did not last long, because soon after, the 9th person joined.
