"Oh, good. At least we knew this was coming," Sam pointed out.

Steve felt the need to itemize, "Yep, there's no shock. We know how it starts and ends."

"Now, we get to uncover all of Captain America's secrets in the meantime," Peter said conspiratorily.

Steve gave him a worried look then a sharp one at Bucky's manic grin. He knew it. He was doomed.

Just a Brooklyn boy from NYC

"That's you?!"

"Oh, yeah," Bucky answered far too cheekily for Steve's liking.

"But you're so small!"

"Oh, yeah."

They were both happy they could joke about it now. The constant stress and fear of how breakable the human body is in such a state was almost a fleeting memory now. They had bigger things to worry about now, like getting shot. Not a step up, but it felt like one.

Picked a lot of fights but Bucky always rescued me

"Not always."

"No, just more than I'd like. You know I got a bully reputation over you."

Nat's face displayed an emotion no one could figure out, but they knew it wasn't pleasant.

"Neither of you know how to punch," Clint said with a matching look on his face.

"No, shit. I was in the army and a boxer in the 30s. That means twice the overconfidence and none of the techniques to back it up."

"I was a shrimp. It wouldn't have mattered."

"You ever have Nat nail you in the liver? It could save your life."

"Eh, we made it to a century where it's easier to learn."

"God only knows how."

"Naw, pretty sure even he's stumped."

I wanted to be courageous and stand on my own two feet

"Yep, that's my little ball of heart right there. I'm so proud," Bucky said all over dramatically even wiping fake tears.

Steve didn't even have it in him to come back with something. Bucky was the one who took care of him after his mom passed. Even before his mom passed really. He kind of is Bucky's kid. At least as much as Ponyboy was Darrel's. He really liked that book. It kind of reminded him of himself despite the different times.

"Dude, more like insane," Scott corrected.

"The two are often perceived as one and the same. The difference is more the outcome. If you live, it's courage. If you die, it's insanity," Bruce points out.

Sam disagreed sheerly with friend principals, "Naw, that's still insane."

I was smaller then

I could not defend

"Captain America everybody. The one and only," Nat applauded for added effect.

"You guys suck."

"No, we don't, but what I wanna know is how somebody picked you out to be a super soldier. Like did they intentionally go with the worst for the most contrast if it didn't work out as well as it did?" Tony asked.
