Others may trip and fall below you, just for a glimpse of your feet as you step over them.Others may text you repeatedly, with hopes that you will respond and give them a moment of your time.
Others may clap for you for every breath that you take, just to gain your attention.
I am not them.
I will not kiss your ass to gain your appreciation for my hard work. I will not clap for you with every step that you take, as if you were an infant learning to walk. I will not let you step over me, as if I am a peasant begging you for a crumb of food. I do not owe you my praise or kindness, especially if it means I have to beg for yours in return.
You can take me out of your inner circle, you can talk behind my back. You can claim that you are better than me in every aspect of life, you can triumph and brag about your man accomplishments as if I would never be able to reach your level.
I promise I will.
The day I reach my goals, I will continue pass them. The day I achieve what you feel I could never, I will keep going until you cry at my feet.
The day I make it in this world, when you will beg to work with me, you will claim we were old friends who go way back, you will act like there are no hard feelings, I will not step over you, I will not treat you how you treated me.
I am not you.
I will rise above your petty, disgraceful acts, I simply choose to stand as a reminder that we all bleed the same blood, and stand on the same land. Treat people with kindness and that kindness will grow.
You can push me to the side, and its okay, because I know you are just saving me for later.
Save me for later.
Save me, for later. When I can finally live up to your standards, and actually matter in your eyes.
I just hope no one treats you the way you treated me.
