Richard's POV-

"Nonsense. You are forgetting that she is my employee.", I reacted, quite astonished after hearing that.

I was surely shocked from hearing that. Did I act affectionately towards Emma? Was I to be accused of misbehavior? It was a sunny afternoon. You can't really hear the birds chirping due to the windows being closed. I closed the door and drew the blinds to prevent other people from witnessing this particular conversation.

"Oh c'mon. It sure looks like you are in love with her.", Max teased.

Max Ramirez was one of my oldest and most closest friends. Our mothers were the bestest of friends so we practically grew up with each other. Although his physical attributes were one of the best, if not the best, Max was quite simple minded and childlike. Due to both of us being brought up in a conglomerate household, we never really got to experience our childhoods like other normal kids. Think of it as a coping mechanism.

"I'm not in love with her. I'm just fond of her. That's all." I spoke in denial. Well it was true. Emma was one of those few people who i could depend on. Why wouldn't i be fond of her? She's great at her work, resourceful and takes her job seriously. I do realize all of those qualities were work related, yet what can i say? I don't know her personality aside from how she behaves around me.

"Boohoo that's boring. Why is your life so monotonous?" i heard Max ridicule." Learn how to have some fun. Go out. Experience the world. Spread your win-" I shoved a sandwich in his mouth before he could finish his sentence. "You sound like a youtuber." i heard myself say with a small laugh. Just then i heard a Max's ringtone.

"I gotta go. BubBye." Max said hurriedly closing the door a little too hard. The whole office could probably hear that. I sat on my chair pondering about what Max and I's conversation. Did i really like Emma? Utter rubbish. That is unprofessional especially for a corporation like us. Thinking about this makes my head hurt.

Out of the blue , i hear someone knock on the door. " Sir is this a bad time?" I hear my secretary ask.

"No. What is it?"

"It is about the office gathering. Are you going to be there? Your schedule is free for the evening."

Normally i would have thought that gatherings were a waste of time but Max's words kept lingering around my head. Without realizing i hear myself say yes.

"Okay sir." My secretary notes closing the door with a softness. Definitely softer than Max.

The eerie quietness makes me feel uneasy. The only noise i can hear are of the A.C as i start to open my mails. I can't wait for the day to be over.
