I walked up to the imposing Admissions Office of Harvard. Just breathe. It's just a new place to live. It's not like I've been accepted to one of the most prestigious universities in the country.  And...I'm a newbie junior to an Ivy League school.  Or...been moved around in dozens of foster homes for years. I snickered as I walked in the door. Right.  Like anyone would believe the real reason I was moved around.  Why those weird things kept happening.  Suddenly, I slammed into someone. I bumped off the person and fell backward onto my butt. Except...I didn't hit the ground.

"Hey! Watch where you're going, you—"

I looked up at the person.  I held in a gasp as I saw his eyes.  He's...he can use the Power!  Does he know I can, too?  Can he sense that I have it?

"Is there something wrong with your eyes?" I asked, blurting out.

The guy reached out and slid an arm around me as his eyes turned a deep blue. I felt gravity hit me again, but with this guy's arm around me, I didn't fall. I glanced down and saw he was wearing a necklace with some kind of charm or pendant on it.  He pulled me back onto my feet and steadied me. Then he flashed me a charming grin.

"I think you'd be surprised with how my eyes look when I check out a cute girl."

I glared at him as I bent down to pick up the things I'd dropped.  Okay...he definitely can't sense my Power.  But I can sense that he just used his.  And he's a serious flirt.  Hmm...why not flirt back?  I'm a newbie and it's not like I'll see him again.

"I am most definitely not a girl, weirdo. I'm a woman. You might wanna address me as such." The guy snorted and knelt beside me, helping me pick up my stuff.

"'Woman' is definitely the better term for you, sweetheart." I rolled my eyes and stood back up, holding my things. He's gotta be kidding.  He stood up beside me, still giving me an easy grin.

"You need to work on your pickup lines." He chuckled and held out a hand.

"Really? And I thought it was working so well. I'm Chase. Chase Collins." I shook his hand.

"Jess Schmidt."  I pulled my hand back and started toward the main office.

"Hey, you gonna stay long enough for me to buy you a drink?"  I snorted and glanced over my shoulder, giving Chase a faint smile.

"Depends."

"Depends on what?"

"How much you can handle a chick like me."  I headed into the office, leaving Chase speechless.  There was a guy in the main office, sitting behind the desk with an uneasy look on his face.
