"Mm..."
I opened my eyes and rubbed them. I looked around and realized I was back in my room. Huh? How did I get back here? I shifted and groaned. My entire body felt stiff and I pushed myself to a sitting position. My head was pounding.
"You are absolutely insane. You know that?"
"Huh?" I turned my head and saw Chase sitting at my desk.
"You could've gotten yourself killed!"
"I know that, Chase."
"Dead! You would've died!"
"I know that! That was the point!"
Chase stared at me for a couple minutes. Then he got up and stormed over to me. Before I could stop him, he knelt beside me and kissed me desperately. When he pulled back, he sat beside me, leaving me breathless.
"Why? Why would you wanna die?"
"Because I was trying to keep you safe! I linked his life to mine! He kills me and he dies, too, you idiot! He wouldn't have been able to gain more Power!"
"You're...insane, princess. You should've talked to us about this before doing it." I sighed exasperatedly.
"I was trying to keep you safe because I care about you, Chase Collins!" He shut his mouth and stared at me.
"What?"
"We have this stupid bet and we've been trying to make the other one lose control, but the truth is, Collins, I care about you! That's why I tried to sacrifice myself!"
"You shouldn't have done that, prin—Jess! I don't care about the bet anymore!"
"If you hadn't followed me, I could've died and taken him down with me! You wouldn't have had to worry about me and my leeching abilities or Putnam and his!" Chase sat beside me and grabbed my face, forcing me to look at him.
"You can't just do reckless crap as if your life is meaningless, Jess."
"My life is meaningless, Chase! I'm dangerous because of my abilities! I shouldn't even be alive!"
"But you are! You are alive! And you feel things because you're alive!" I pulled my face out of his hand.
"I'm a weapon, Chase! If you had just let Putnam kill me, he'd be dead, too!"
"I don't want you dead, Jess! I want you alive and by my side!" My mouth dropped open.
"What?" Chase seemed surprised by his words, too.
"I...I care...about you, too, Jess. Screw our bet."
"Seriously?"
"Yes, screw our bet. Just kiss me."
I grabbed fistfuls of his jacket and pulled him toward me. Chase wrapped his arms around me, kissing me roughly. I laid down, pulling him on top of me. He shifted and pressed his full weight into me. I moaned as Chase wrapped his arms around me and trailed his lips down my neck. I could feel his hardness press against me as he slid his hands down my sides and hooked my legs around his waist.
"Ah...Chase..." He gripped my thighs tighter and jerked his hips against mine. I gasped and arched up toward him. "Chase..."
He sat back and tugged off his jacket, tossing it to the floor. I tore off my shirt and my pants, tossing them to the floor, too. He gripped my hips and pulled me against him, kissing me roughly again. I moaned softly and slipped my fingers under his shirt. I pushed his shirt up and prompted him to raise his arms. He helped me get his shirt off and slipped out of his pants. Chase pinned me to my bed as soon as his pants and shirt were on the floor and kissed me hard. I gripped his hands and kissed him back, nibbling his lower lip.
