- you knew something was up the moment angela approached you at the skating rink. she introduced herself way to quickly.

- her smile was too much of a smirk and her tone had an obvious mock.

- a faux gasp left her glossed lips as she smiled at you momentarily before looking over at el. "jane, is this your girlfriend...?" she asked hesitantly. she must've seen you two holding hands before, or maybe the quick kiss your shared when your giggles couldn't be contained due to your horrible skating skills. it had taken a little while for el to grow into pda back in hawkins, which you only had a short time to improve on. but then, right at that moment- it just felt right.

- el hadn't looked at you since angela showed, opening her mouth to reply but you beat her to it, narrowing your eyes at the blonde girl in front of you.

- "yup, i am. and you're... jane's friend?" you almost slipped, not used to calling your girlfriend by her official name.

- "friend?" her eyebrows raises. if she wasn't trying to give her act away any harder... "oh, yeah. jane & i are great friends... best friends even."

- you discreetly rolled your eyes, pursing your lips together. you tried your hardest to muster up a genuine smile but as she stood a few feet from you, you could practically feel the fake dripping from angela.

- "why don't you come with me, bestie?" she reached for el's hand but you grabbed it instead.

- "actually, if you don't mind. i was hoping to spend more time with jane. and our friend is on his way back with the food. wouldn't want to waste." you glared, keeping el close to you.

- she did everything in her power to hide the small smile from everyone, keeping her eyes down and hand in your own.

- you could tell angela was angered, but you didn't care. as long as you could help it, no one would hurt el again. "fine," angela smiled, skating away.

- when you were sure she was gone, you nudged el's shoulder for her attention. "why didntyou tell me she was a bitch?"

- her eyes widened at your choice of adjective, a chuckle breaking through her reply. "i - i didnt want you to think that i couldn't handle myself."

- "you & i both know, better than anyone, that you can. but you don't have to lie to me, i'm here for you."

- "i know."

- "you're gonna tell me the truth from now on?"

- el nodded, smiling at you. "friends don't lie."

- "girlfriends don't lie either." you laughed, enthusiastically waving over to will when we approached with the pizza.

- you couldn't wait to hand him the surprise birthday present you had been hiding.
