you were willing to love him, prove to him that there was nothing wrong with the heistation, the doubts. that it was completely normal not to want to just dive right into a relationship.

you just wanted him to express his feelings, let you know what was going on. eddie had built up some commitment issues and you just wanted him to know that it was okay.

you weren't sure if you were the problem but you were starting to get a little worried, if not for your relationship then for eddie himself. he's been disclosed lately-

"okay i'll see you tommorow." you all had finished a successful day of fun at the quarry and all you wanted was a bath & some sleep.

"see you y/n!" the losers called out as you made haste the other direction with eddie. "did you have fun? you didn't talk much. usually we can't get you to shut up." you laughed, attempting to lighten the mood but eddie kept his gaze fixed on the pavement beneath him. he zoned out, watching the way the front wheel of his bike continued to spin and smooth against the rough concrete.

"wait!" you heard from behind you, stopping and turning behind you cautiously to check who it was. "why the fuck do you guys walk so fast?" richie panted, bending to resting his hands on his thighs.

"what do you need rich?"

"let me stay at your house." he took a deep breath finally.

"richie, i told you, you can't stay over every night-"

"this is the last time, y/n please."

"i don't think i've ever heard you say please before-"

"y/n!"

"fine. but if my (guardian/s) say no then you're out on the streets for the night. no arguments like last time."

"whatever." he squinted at you. "why so quiet eddie?" richie give him a shove to the shoulder.

eddie continued to look to the ground, murmuring a quiet "im not."

"you sure? bill got a pretty deep scratch from that branch back there, you didn't even yell at a single one of us." richie began mocking and reciting things eddie would say in a 'medical emergency'

instead of insulting him, eddie stayed quiet, not a single word slipping past his lips. you cleared your throat, looking up. "well this is us." you laughed sadly pointing towards your house which was now in front of you all.

usually the walk to your house seemed much longer, you wondered what made it go by so quick.

"yeah." richie said, adjusting his glasses. "bye, eds" he waved to eddie taking a step onto your porch before you do. "richie wait for me-" you began but he was already in the house, your (guardian/s) yelling protests of his presence. you could faintly hear him arguing back until your front door slammed shut, the yells becoming muffled.

"are you gonna be okay walking by yourself?" you asked, knowing he was going to be just fine.

"yeah." he mumbled, avoiding your eyes.

"okay."

you started making your way into the house before he finally spoke up, "y/n," it was almost as quiet as everything else spoken from him today.

you hesitantly turned around, head tilting slightly as you waited for what he had to say. to be completely honest you weren't very enthusiastic about what he was planning on staying. you've tried and tried to be there for him, show him that if he needed help you were there. you just wanted it to work. but eddie didn't.

"we have to...stop."

"it's not like we've been doing much in the first place."

"you know that i-"

"yeah, i know eddie. i know more than anyone. i wasn't asking for anything serious, you didn't have to be scared of anything with me."

"y/n-"

"no it's fine." you shook your head, throwing your bike down on the porch, heading inside. he tried calling out for you, for you to just listen, but deep down he knew by the time you were facing him no words would come out. he liked you, he really did. he was just scared. scared of being tied down, scared of having to commit to something that would go so badly.

he promised he wouldn't hurt you.

he loved you, but he also loved richie more.
