My mood was lagging until I got home and saw the car that was still jacked up on the side of the road. It made my low mood rise and I smiled.

"That'll teach him for sleeping on the job."

Pulling into the driveway, I pressed the button and waited for the door to slide up. As much as I wanted to ignore him, I couldn't. Konrad was sitting on the steps. He looked at me with a raised eyebrow.

"I'm ignoring you because you're not supposed to be in West River."

Reaching to his side, he pulled out a bunch of roses.

"Gas station flowers? You can do better than that."

The door had risen and I began to slide into the garage. I looked up into the mirror, seeing him standing behind the car.

"Clearly you don't understand hints."

Grabbing my bag, I got out of the car and gestured to the two wheels.

"You can take these now. I'll permit a tow truck to collect the vehicle if you can't figure out how to put a tyre on."

Picking up the keys, I gave him a smug grin as I dropped them onto his palm.

"You're so hilarious."

He offered the flowers while pocketing the keys. I took them, albeit reluctantly.

"It might interest you to know that I got a message from Brian. He requested residency in Black Ridge."

Konrad held up his phone, showing me the message and the clear no that Konrad responded with.

"Be warned that he will try all of the surrounding packs. When he finds one to take him in, he will work his way into a cushy position and it will be done with West River secrets. If you've got anything to hide or change, do it quickly."

"We're cool."

Rolling the tyre out of the garage, I waited for Konrad to bring the other one out. When he was done, I stepped back into the garage and reached out to press the button.

"Please, don't let it end like this."

"You played me for a fool, you manipulated the situation and you even used Shelly against me. Now you stand there attempting to get another chance out of me? Have you gone mad or is this just a part of the long con?"

"There's no con. Just a woman that bewitched me at a festival. That was before I knew who you were. There's a reason that everything feels right. Don't you get it?"

"Yeah, I get it. You think it's love but it's actually lust. Go and find yourself a pretty wolf in your own pack. Goodbye Konrad."

Pressing the button, I waited until it was at my knees before I wiped the tears away. I was not going to become a blubbering mess because of him.

Moving through the garage, I picked up the flowers and continued upstairs. I was surprised to find the alarm was off again. It quickly turned to anxiety.

Turning, I faced Brian.

There were no words spoken. Just an angry man that let the wolf consume him.

Wet fur rippled through the disappearing skin. His face began to distort, reshaping into a snout with sharp teeth.

Frozen to the place where I stood, I stared as the thick black fur straightened. His eyes turned red, shimmering in the light.

Brian was on the far side of the room and I was at the top of the stairs. To get away from him, I had to get to the front door because waiting for the garage door to rise would take too long.

The problem was that the second I moved, he would attack.

The top lip rippled as the wolf growled at me. I could change to my wolf but that was dangerous. Females were smaller but we could be as strong as a male. The issue here was that Brian was an elder and they could out do a lot of wolves, both male and female.

There was another issue. If he pinned me down, he could impregnate me easily. I did not want that to happen. I could not change into the wolf.

There was a ray of hope on the street. Konrad's ego wouldn't allow him to leave without putting the wheel back on the car. He would not call a tow truck or anyone else to help.

All I had to do was get to the door.

I raced, knowing that he would reach me within seconds. All I had to do was get the door open.

It was locked but that didn't stop me. With all the strength I could muster, I jerked the door open. The locks ripped with the wood as the wolf took me down. I screamed for Konrad, watching as he stood and turned to look at me.

Instantly he shifted, lowering to his paws to race to me. I cried out as the wolf ran his claws down my back.

Growling echoed as the fight began. Konrad was outmatched, no matter what he thought.

My hand was shaking as I reached for my bag. Tears flowed freely, pain radiated through me and I knew that I was already losing a lot of blood.

With a trembling hand, I rang Alec. He was the first on the list.

"Megan," he said excitedly.

Then he stopped, clearly listening to the growling and barking.

"Brian's here,"

"On my way, bringing help."

The line went quiet for a second, then the cacophony of panic began.

"Megan,"

"Frank," I cried. "He's going to kill Konrad."

"We're coming. Are you hurt?"

There was silence for a second.

"Never mind, bring the kit Alec."

The sound of engines turning over filled me with hope but not much. The weight of the pain took over and as I closed my eyes, I felt the bliss of nothing.
