"Yaaaaa! Hahaha! This guy ova' here!" Constable Leighton cheers in delight at his friend's accomplishment. Throwing an arm over Whistler's shoulder and shaking him excitedly.
As Leighton had asked, George told him about his success in asking (Y/n) out on a little date to even the bargain out.
"Hey! Hey! Constable Stephens!" Leighton points toward the bypassing colleague, Stephens flinches at his name suddenly being called and he turns to the source of the call. "What is it?" Stephens questions with a hint of annoyance in this voice. "The feller here got a date!" Leighton is the type of man to gossip about who's dating/engaged with who with, his fellow Constables.
George turns red under his mask and looks away, messing with his helmet in an attempt to hide his face.
"Really? Congrats, Whistler. About time you started dating again." At least Stephens is a bit more respectful about it. And with that, Constable Stephens walks away to resume whatever he was doing.
"so? When is the big day?" Leighton teases and finally, lets go of Whistler. "Next week," George answers swiftly. A whole week to prepare himself and where to go, in order to have a safe route through the Garden District, he needs to plan that out.
"atta boy!" Constable Leighton grins and nudges Whistler's shoulder. George can already tell that Leighton won't let him hear the end of this...~~Meanwhile~~
"so... That Constable I've seen you talk with. What's about that?" Mrs Hunt asks almost teasingly. Mrs Hunt invited you for tea in order to make up for the way she acted a couple of weeks ago. You take a drink from your tea and laugh while putting the teacup back on the saucer.
"Well, we started out as mere friends I suppose." You begin, "But then he asked me on a date, it was very sweet." Your face colours a light pink as you recall that fateful evening. You weren't sure if you could tell Mrs Hunt the rest of the story, but it's not like you're lying to her. The pleasant memories you made with George cause happiness to bubble in your chest. It's been a while since you've felt actual real joy. Ever since you got off that cursed drug it's been nothing but discomfort and loneliness despite the people around you, while other wellies were waddling through their dreamless slumbers you were living some horrid nightmare.Since George has entered your life so unceremoniously, he has made it a bit brighter with his mere presence alone. You have never met someone like him before in this imperfect place.
"You look so dreamy (Y/n), he must be quite the feller then?" Mrs Hunt quips while pouring herself another cuppa tea. You perk at her voice and nod. "That's something I cannot deny, Alice." You confess honestly, making her laugh.
After another moment of comfortable silence, you remember something.
Something that Mrs Hunt has called you over to tea in the first place, "Alice, about the vegetables-" "Don't worry your little head about that, (Y/n)." She cuts you off, waving her hand in a dismissive manner. She most likely feels bad about raising her voice at you about some greens, but you're not just gonna let it slide like that.
"Alice, I promised, didn't I? I've got a fresh batch of potatoes, I've reserved some for you and your husband." Your statement causes Mrs Hunt to daintily put a hand on her chest in shock.
"oh dear, (Y/n). Even after I went off my head like that? You're truly an angel." She gleams, raising her hand to wipe a happy tear from her eye. You smile kindly at your neighbour. You had, in fact, promised that you'd share your vegetables, of course, you have the right to keep most of your new vegetables to yourself, leaving a small amount for your neighbours; because it feels like a good thing to do.
