The gang just wanted a simple night of playing Monopoly, a game they could all enjoy.
Even though they couldn't play D&D, the boys insisted on using their characters, instead of the ones from monopoly. Because of this, Eddie made Steve, Robin, Nancy, Max, El and Jonathan their own pieces, though Jonathan didn't end up needing his.
They set up around the table, while Jonathan disappeared into the corner with Argyle.
Eddie hangs onto the rules, he's insanely particular about following them.
Steve has accepted the duty of banker, to make sure no one cheats.
After getting through a large portion of the game, Lucas lands himself in jail, and can't roll a pair to save his life. Immediately after each of his rolls, Max rolls the doubles he needed.
"I hate you," he whisper yells at Max after she does it a third time.
A devilish smile spreads across her face, "oh? Well next time," she pauses and leans in close, "don't steal my monopoly."
Will, Mike, El and Nancy play their turns, and bring it to Robin's turn.
She rolls, and while still in jail, Lucas rejoices, as Robin lands on his property.
"Pay up, Robin," Lucas holds his hand out across the table.
"You're in jail, I'm not paying you."
"You have to, it's the game."
"Robin, give Lucas your $200, you were landed on his property," Steve leans on the table, to see passed Eddie.
"No! He's in jail, I'm not giving money to a CRIMINAL!"
Steve goes to respond, and he begins with the instructions towards Robin, that's not how you play!
El leans over, "Nancy, why is Eddie screaming?"
"Shut the fuck up El, you get to talk after stealing my last railroad."
El hasn't spent time playing this game, normally, she watches the boys play D&D, which is nothing like this. This is different, even Nancy and Robin were angry.
Dustin and Mike have spent the whole time losing money, and selling everything they own.
"I wish I was never born," Dustin tries desperately to get his words over everyone.
"Me too," Mike agrees, and they both look at Will.
"Why did everyone have to play? This is insane."
They all knew this was Will's idea to begin with, but eventually girlfriends joined, then siblings, and then everyone else followed.
"Do you think I wanted this?" Will had always made it obvious that he just wanted to have it like old times with the boys.
Jonathan and Argyle have spent the whole time high, and can't follow a single part of this game. All he knew, was that everyone was screaming.
"They can't know we're high," he leans over to Argyle, who nods in return.
Jonathan stands up, and partially walks to the table, glancing between everyone, "AHHHH!"
Everyone falls silent, eyes wide.
Jonathan looks to Argyle, who smiles and gives him a thumbs up. Jonathan then goes back to the corner.
"What just–" Mike leans to Will, who cuts him off.
"I have no idea," Will seems more concerned than anyone.
Robin mindlessly passes Lucas the money she owes, and the play continues as before, hopefully minus Jonathan yelling again.
