Elio was a tall boy, he never quite "fit in with the others". He was tall and because he played sports he was quite muscular. People would describe him as proud. They way he walked and talked made it clear he wasn't ashamed of who he was.
He was the nice boy, the boy that would help with homework and was out going. He played football too, so he was quite popular.
However he never wanted to try and impress anyone with the fact he played football. He never bragged about it at parties or used it to talk to girls. He never found it to be special sense he wasn't team captain.
Jitka however was seen as normal height. Everything about him was normal. He played hockey and the only advanced class he was in was literature.
He called himself a transfer student when really he was a first generation American. He was born in the Czech Republic but when he was 11 he immigrated with his family to the United States.
Both of the characters go through hard ships with their family. Elio facing the homophobia of his parents and Jitka facing the idea of making his parents proud and succeeding in the United States.
