August 3rd - 2005

I hum the tune to a song that had been playing on the car ride to Brad's as I change into a pair of leggings, a white cami top and one of his zip up sweaters, leaving it open. I begin unpacking my case into the drawers and closet space he cleared for me. Bringing out a little dress I was planning on wearing to lunch with the girls tomorrow, I hung it up behind the door just as the door bell rang. I make my way downstairs, forgetting I locked the door and left the key in it so Brad probably can't get in.

"Two seconds!" I shout, unlocking the door, then opening it up wide.

My heart dropped instantly when I seen her standing in front of me. I know that I've turned pale and I'm positive that I could throw up right now if I don't hold it in. I hold the door and the frame, balancing myself as she raises her eyebrows at me.

"Pleasant surprise," she says, crossing her arms over. "I've brought some of the things he ordered to my house while he was away." She says, nodding her head to the box on the ground just beside her, it has massive red writing saying 'fragile' across it.

I have no idea if Brad has spoken to her, to break it off or tell her about us... so this could possibly be a massive shock to her.

"Oh, right. I'll get it." I hesitantly take the heavy box, picking it up and walking inside. It made a few noises as some things within it moved, maybe its ornaments or something.

"Is Brad here?" She asks, stepping in and looking down the hallway for him. "I'd like to speak with him."

"Not yet, he should be back any minute. Come in and wait if you want." I suggested, hoping she'd decline and leave, but...

"Okay..." she whispered, closing the door behind herself as she followed me into the living room.

I sat opposite from her, the silence surrounding us for a few minutes before she opened her mouth to speak.

"Tell me something, woman to woman... is this it, he's finished with me...are you back together?" She asks me, slightly harshly.

"Yes." I answer bluntly, straight to the point before I sat forward, a little pissed by the tone she took as if I owe her something. "Woman to woman..." I emphasise, rolling my eyes. "Did you ever think of calling?" I asked and she widened her eyes.

"I didn't think I owed it to you..."

I almost laugh at that. "Ha! What?"

"He's the one that left you, not me."

"Yeah, he is the one that left me. But you were part of it!" I stated matter of factly.

"Jennifer-"

"No!" I cut her off. "You met me! You told me that we were 'the perfect couple'. You had lunch with us and spoke to me on a professional and personal level. I even went out my way to invite you to our home... and you came! What, was that part of your plan?!" I raise my voice. "Were you scoping out what it would look like if you lived with him?"

"I have no idea why you're yelling! You won! You have him back!" She now yelled, shaking her head at me as if I'm stupid.

"I won?! You think I'm the person that won in this situation?"

"It sure as hell wasn't me!"

"It wasn't me either! Do you think I've won?"

"You're here aren't you? It's clear that you two are back together. But hey, good for you guys. I don't need Brad in my life to be happy."

"Is that a dig? I don't need Brad to be happy, I was doing just fine again until you sent him off to me!"

"Because I knew that you two we're having sex. I knew that he was sneaking off to see if you would call him back. I knew why he didn't touch me that night I came to Malibu, because he had barely just been separated from you that morning. I found a pair of panties in his laundry and they sure as hell weren't mines. I knew that you guys were together again a long time ago, now officially."
