It was dark in New York, right after sunrise, but none of the two girls in the pub felt scared in any way.

„Hedy Lamarr 184."

„Jesse Reno 185"

„Gutenberg 185"

„Graham 18-"

„That doesnt count.", objectet the brunette.

„Yes it does, Bette Graham invented the liquid paper.", defended the older one herself.

„Sounds great, when you phrase it like that. I just named the inventor of the literal book and you come up with a woman who had the Idea to cover up spelling mistakes with paint.", Liz took a sip of her beer bottle, not taking her accusing look of the blond one.

Sophie leaned back in her seat unimpressed from Lizs look, „You just can't name any more, that's why mine suddenly doesn't count."

„Oh yeah? I can do this all day.", the german smirked, „Barnad, Einstein, Göbel, Keller, Benz and Käthe Paulus. 191, Take that american."

Defeated rolled Sophie with her eyes and chuckled as the girl in front of her stood up and bowed down. She seemingly didn't care what the other people at the bar, mostly men, thought of their weird little competition. Not only their competition, but the girls themselfes looked weird; both of them didn't change from their university clothes into their normal ones. Liz was still wearing her white labour suit and Sophie for once didn't mind changing from her surgery two-piece into one of her fancy night dresses.

„You know Einstein was from Austria right?",she started her last attempt, but Liz just stuck out her tounge and left grinning to the bathrooms, leaving Sophie alone at their table.

_______

Liz Pov:

The door closed behind me and it became silent. I felt my smile fading away, but didn't bother looking in the mirror. I still leaned against the sink stared down at the dirty floor. Sophie was definitely a win, we've met this year in anatomy-class and even though Sophie was a bit older than me, we got along good. From time to time I even played with the thought, that I might have a crush on her, but everytime I saw the blued-eyed blonde in person again all hopes for that working out disappeard. We were conservative academic students and I only had our friendship here in New York and didn't want to ruin that. Our finals week was in a few days, but studiying last minute for a medicine exam, was like trying to safe a burning house with a water pistol, cool but useless. I smiled a bit to myself, for that metaphore.Until I remembered something, or someone. I wasn't to drunk, but dumb enough to check my phone. I pulled it out of my jacket and looked at the way to bright screen.

Nothing but the time, not that I expected any messages, but I kinda did. I put it at the edge of the mirror next to me and turned around frustrated to splash some water in my face, if it helps in movies it has to help now. The moment I wanted to turn on the water it happened, the thing I was scared of for the past years and of course it happened, when I wasn't prepared in anyway.

The first thing I noticed was, that my hand started to prickel, at first I couldn't associate the feeling, but when my hand was supposed to hit the cold metal of the water tap and instead glided through it a switch in m head went off and i buckled away.

„F*ck." I quickly turned around expecting to see anyone standing behind one of the bathroom stalls, waiting tojump at me, but instead I heard something worse.

No Pov:

Sophies scream wasn't loud or hysterical, but it hurt Liz in every possible way. All she wanted was to sprint and run as fast as she could to her. Before she could move, the lights went off and all she heard was silence.

„Verdammt, verdammt,verdammt..." Slowly she looked around hoping to find any light source, but the room had no windows and even from under the door only came complete darkness. Because she wouldn't need them anyway, she closed her eyes and concentrated on what she could hear. The door of the pub was still closed, otherwise she would have heard the street sounds from outside. She couldn't hear footsteps, but one of her other senses alarmed her, just fast enough, for her to move out the way. Something big, probably an arrow, had been fired through the bathroomdoor, so close and fast, that the only thing she felt was a cold air brushing her left ear.

She abruptly opened her eyes and stormed in the direction the shot came from. If the same person that hurt Sophie was the person, that stood behind that door, they were absolutely dead. She just needed to get Sophie somewhere safe. A sharp pain in her forehead interrupted her thoughts, she duck away, dodging the next punch and slided her foot over the floor hoping to hit the person in front of her. They couldn't see her and she couldn't see them. For now the complete darkness was a gift and a curse.
