The last day of summer finally came to an end, and it was exhausting for Y/N, since she'd been waiting for the end of summer forever. She hated it with a passion, since she had to spend it with her father, who hated her. He'd wanted a son, and he made that evidently clear to her. She'd never been the best in school, but she wasn't stupid. Her father treated her like a housemaid ever since her mother, Tabitha, died, due to a magic related crime. Her father barged through her bedroom door, holding a pair of scuffed up shoes.
"What's this?!" He yelled at her. Her heart dropped. The one thing she forgot to do was to shine his shoes. Her eyes started to water, knowing exactly what would come next. Her father raised his hand, high above his head, and he started to bring it down, but a knock on the door stopped him. It was her best friend, her saviour, her angel in white robes, Amelia. Amelia had been her best friend for as long as she could remember. Amelia always had had a sense when her father was gonna hurt her, and Y/N often joked that Amelia could see the future. She heard her father mutter a swear word under his breath and dropped the shoes. He swiftly walked out of the door, leaving a shaken up Y/N. Y/N stood up, began gathering up the last of her school supplies, and ran to the toilets to make herself look a little more presentable. Amelia's soft, light voice flitted into the bathroom from the kitchen, letting Y/N's father know why she was here. "...gonna be late for the train, sir. I'm just trying to make sure she's ready." Y/N peered out the door frame into the kitchen and Amelia winked at her. Y/N fixed her hair and walked into the kitchen, where her father was. She stared up into his eyes. "Goodbye Father, I hope you're well while I'm gone." She grabbed her luggage and Amelia's hand and she walked out the door, leaving her personal hell hole behind for another year. Amelia grabbed Y/N's suitcase for her and threw it in the trunk. Y/N opened the passenger door and sat down, closing the door behind her. "Octavia, how are you gonna get to Hogwarts when I'm gone?" Amelia asked. "You only have a year left with me, but by the time I've graduated, you'd only be 15. You know your lovely father won't take you." She ended. Y/N thought for a second. "I'll make new friends this year, so I'll have someone else to bring me." She smiled back at Amelia. Amelia sighed and started the car, merging onto the road.
By the time Y/N woke up, she was on the train. Amelia must've set her there, she always was going out of her way for Y/N. She stood up, stretching, realising that Amelia wasn't in her cab, but then she remembered that Amelia was a prefect, which meant that she wasn't gonna be sitting with her anymore. Y/N sat back down, but missed the seat, and landed on the ground. The train lurched to a start and she fell forward. She laid on the ground for a moment, thinking about how odd her situation would look to a bystander. She stretched along the ground, again, and stood up, looking for her book in her luggage. It'd been what seemed 5 hours, when Y/N heard laughing in the halls and footsteps thudding quickly, getting closer to her cabin. She sighed, thinking it was a first year, but she quickly realised she was wrong when she saw the platinum blond hair flash by her cabin window. Oh, she thought to herself. I guess that makes more sense than a first year. Her door slammed open and the boy came barreling in, laughing loudly. He quickly shut up when he saw whose presence he was in.
"Oh..." He said snydly. "It's you. Should've figured someone like you would be alone." He laughed at the end. "Oh, shove it up your ass, Malfoy. Don't you have anything better to do than terrorize girls?" Y/N remarked. Malfoy raised his eyebrows, surprised that Y/N would talk to him like that. "I don't even get why you hate me so much! I never did anything to you!" Y/N yelled. Another boy came into the cabin, some random Slytherin kid. He looked at Draco, then back to Y/N. He smirked and Malfoy grimaced. "Oh, fuck off you prick. That's disgusting!" Draco yelled. He looked at Draco and said, under his breath, "If you aren't gonna use her, I will." He began walking towards Y/N and her heart started racing, and she began feeling nervous. Malfoy just watched as the boy slowly approached Y/N, but there looked like there was a dark haze in his eyes, like he wanted to kill the boy. The boy was close enough to Y/N that he could reach out and touch her. She began to back up towards the wall, breathing heavier and heavier by each second. She could feel her face forming into a worried, panicked expression. She glanced at Draco, over the boy's shoulder, and they make eye contact for a brief second.
*Y/N's POV*
What happened next happened so quickly, it was a blur. One minute, Malfoy was behind the boy, the next, he was on top of him, beating the life out of him. "Don't touch her!" He yelled. "If you ever put a single finger on her, ever again, I'll kill you myself!" I didn't know what set him off, why he did what he did, since he apparently hated me. "Malfoy!" I yelled, launching myself onto his back, trying to pull him off. "Get off of him, you're gonna kill him!" That made him stop. He quit punching the boy, and he turned his head to me, staring at me. The boy got up and ran, slamming the door shut behind him. I don't know why I did what I did, but it felt right. I slowly lifted my arms up and put them around his shoulders, laying my head against his chest. I began to quietly weep, thinking about what could've happened to me. Malfoy was frozen inside my locked arms, even unblinking. "Thank you..." I whisper, thankful for what he just saved me from. He shrugged my shoulders off and stood up. He walked towards the door and opened it, but instead of walking out, he stopped in the doorway. "Don't mention it." He whispered back, flatly. He shut the door quietly behind him, and he walked away with his head down. I started at the ground, making my mind think about what just happened. I shuddered, but picked my book back up and began reading, but before I got too sucked in, I made sure to lock the cabin door. If this was what this year was gonna be like, there was one thing I knew for sure. This would be one hell of a year.
