*Jane is Y/N's last name when spoken*
Winter. Finally. It's finally came. With the bombshell Malfoy dropped the night prior, I'm gonna need a little pick-me-up. Apparently we had met before. He erased my memory. He still won't tell me why, so I've gone out of my way to avoid going into a long conversation with him. I'll only answer in 'mhm' or 'yeah'. The only thing he'll tell me is that he's not telling me 'for my own sake'. I made my way down the main stairs leading into the Great Hall as I agitatedly looked looked around for Draco. Today, we were going to Hogsmead and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let some snow stop me. I felt him before I saw him, because he grabbed my arm as I walked past him, not even realising he was there.
"Oh, Malfoy. Hello." I turn my head away from him and walk off while he's still holding my arm. He trips after me, still holding onto my arm, very softly might I add. "Are you still ignoring me?" He asks, jokingly. I sigh, and walk faster. "How many times do I have to tell you? I'm not ignoring you, I'm just not...engaging with you." We stop at the door, waiting for Professor McGonagall to allow us to leave. He grabs my hand, and I sigh, yet again. Clearly, this is a battle I've lost. I can't keep ignoring him, so I give in. I hold his hand back, and I see in my peripheral vision, his eyes light up. We walk out of the building, slowly down the iced steps. Of course, of course, this is the time that my feet give out. Malfoy holds my hand up above my head to attempt to stop me from sliding, but he brings himself down too. We slide down the icy steps together, still holding hands, laughing as we knock other students out of the way. I land in the snow, my head in Malfoy's lap.
"Why do these things," my laughter pauses my statement. "Why do these things always happen to me?" Students give us nasty looks, but I grab Malfoy's hand and pull him up. "Come on, there's no reason we should let the past mess with our relationship, right? We're still friends!" His smile falters, but returns as quickly as it vanished. He nods and smiles.
Time passes by too quickly. I look at my wristwatch and it's already 4:30 pm. "Oh shit, we should head back soon. McGonagall said we need to be back by 5." I look back up and smile at him. Oh Malfoy.... "Ok, just give me one second, I need to use the restroom, and after that, I want to do one last thing." He runs to the nearest restroom, and I take a seat outside, waiting for him. Sitting out here, not moving makes me realise how cold the air actually is. As my eyes scan the area, I see Hermione walking towards me. She smiles at me and takes a seat beside me.
"Hello Octavia. Having fun? Looks like Malfoy pampered you today, wouldn't you say?" I respond with a laugh and a nod. "What all did he get you?" She asked me, seeming genuinely intrigued. "Oh, you know, just a few things. He bought me some roses, some candy...umm...oh! He bought me this dress I saw that I loved...umm...and this pair of beautiful earrings, and this necklace, this ring too." I flashed her an forest green gemstone and a silver band. "Oh, that is just the perfect ring for you! It compliments your hand so well!" She smiles as she takes my hand in hers to examine it closer. Malfoy comes out of the bathroom, wiping his hands on his shirt. Hermione looks up at me, and the quietly excuses herself. "Have fun!" She whispers as she runs off. "Why were you talking to her?" He asked me, curiously. I shrugged. "She came over to me. She just asked me how I was doing and what you got me." He nods and a murmur of agreement escapes his mouth. He grabs my hand and brings me to the edge of the city, right on the water.
"I know I didn't have to be this extra, but I wanted to, so...yeah." He smiles awkwardly. "I don't know how else to ask this, but with you go to the ball with me? I'd love to see you in that dress...you'd look so beautiful." He smiled timidly. I was at a loss for words. The only thing I could do was nod. He smiled contentedly, and it made me feel elated.
Weeks had passed and it was now time for the ball. I woke up a little later than expected, so I had to hurry up the shower. I dried my hair, but I couldn't decide whether to curl my hair or straighten it. That decision took me about 10 minutes in itself. I ended up curling my hair, and for my makeup, I did a soft red on my outer eyelid, and darker red to the middle. Obviously glitter! I put some soft white glitter eyeshadow over the shades of red, and did a fiery red lip colour. False lashes and eyeliner is a must-have! After curling my hair, I took a beautiful diamond encrusted hair decoration that my mother owned, straightened my bangs out, and sprayed on a little hairspray.
My dress is a beautiful dark neon red, it's mid thigh, with a slit down the right leg, going almost to the hip. The straps on my dress are almost nonexistent. I threw on a pair of white heels and made sure everything was in place. Hermione met me at the top of the stairs and she linked her arm in mine.
"You look beautiful! Draco's gonna love it..." she trailed off at the end, but smiled. I back smiled at her. "You look so unbelievably beautiful tonight, I can't even begin to express it." I say to her. Before she can respond, Draco grabs my other arm and steals me away from Hermione. "Thanks Granger, suppose you're alright." I wave a hurried 'goodbye' to her and place my other hand on Draco's arm. He leans down slightly as we walk and whispers in my ear, "you look absolutely perfect tonight." I feel my cheeks flush, and I can't help but think how hard it was to ignore him.
After a while, the slow dance kicks in, and everyone starts leaving the floor. Draco and I are among the only ones left, which was a few couples, Neville and Ginny looked so cute together. I put my arms around his neck and locked my fingers, staring up into his eyes. He responded by placing his hands on my waist and staring back, deep into my eyes. His eyes glint with the guilt of his past, but the wonder of the moment. There's so much emotion going on behind those eyes, yet he remains stone-faced. There's a raging storm behind his eyes, yet he remains at bay.... I don't know what it was, but I felt it at that moment, the spark, and immediately, everything around us is tuned out. It's just us, dancing, intertwined with each other, never wanting to let go. We were here, and we were alone, we were alone in our own dream. He leaned in closer to me, his face inches from mine. I couldn't bare the wait, so I started leaning towards him. Softly, slowly, calmly... any anger I had had before, gone, any tear that was about to fall, evaporated. Everything was on hold, the world paused, and our lips touched. I stood on my tip toes and Draco leaned down. Together, we deepened the kiss, so deep, deeper than the Mariana Trench. We pulled away from each other, staring into each others sparkling eyes, glinting in the shine of the dimly lit candles. I let out an exhale, and he pulled my head into his chest, resting his chin on top of my head. We slowly revolves around the floor, basking in each other's company. Suddenly, the world came back into view, and Professor Dumbledore burst into the ballroom.
