The silence of death was in the air. Cold alluring smell of depression and the misty day.
Konoha was destroyed. Boruto still remembers the day before he saw his city in crumbles, a day in which he thought that he could find hope in everyone. But not everyone wants to be saved.

Boruto looked at Sasuke, his motionless corpse infused with the dirt. He was dead however his hand was still twitching, perhaps a reaction from his muscles. Although he wanted to blame this on Akane, he couldn't, she never existed in the first place, she had died long ago when she became a Kitsune.
Miyumi poor little girl was eaten alive by the monster, half her bones and flesh left flying in bits flowing in the air.

Akane after getting caught for her murder of the child ran and turned. Perhaps some part of her wanted to live a life with Sadara, perhaps she had enjoyed it. Even if she did it was too late to turn back now. It's better to destroy yourself and others around you than try to fix them. Keyword try as they can never to an extent be fixed.
Akane used her revenge as an excuse to hurt others, she thought if she was hurt nobody deserved to be happy. That perhaps is the pinnacle of egocentrism.

Perhaps if she had just chosen to make others happy to take her pain away, she would be happy living with Miyumi and attending school with her sister. Getting up early, taking Sarada cookies because her plate doesn't suffice. Helping Sakura around the house. Talking smack about the teachers with her sister. Teaching Miyumi Narutos sexy jutsu and getting in trouble, scolded from Sarada. She would be tickling Sarada nose every night with her tail so she would wake up sneezing and tease her. Third wing Boruto and Sarada dates and complain about what a dumbass he is. And perhaps ask that one cute boy from the sand village out to casually watch the night sky.

However Akane didn't choose this life she chose to be happy by making others more miserable than she was, and at one point when her Kitsune form took over she realized that misery of others didn't make her happy, but more relatable as she felt less alone. She realized that making other people feel miserable was pointless, and now so was her life. So no matter how many times Naruto called or yelled at her to take control before fading, she didn't , because her life no longer mattered, she was a shell of a person that did nothing but break others, or perhaps she was a coward as she didn't want to now face the consequences presented by her new perspective of life. Therefore she chose to fade and as a last act of her terror left Konoha with a rampaging giant monster that killed half of the village's population and took Sasukes and Sakuras life.

Boruto rephrased that it was Akanes fault as she let the monster willingly do this.

Sarada was devastated she stopped talking in a state of shock two weeks after the incident died from heart failure.
The revenge was complete but at what cost?

Boruto failed to save anyone including Akane.

Perhaps in a different universe with a good chance they would all be random teenagers freely going through life.
Perhaps....
