Raine's phone dinged, "I'm going down the hall to Evie and Mal's," she said, picking up her sketchbook from her desk. "Are you coming?"
Blakely threw a ball at the wall and caught it, "Nope."
"Are you gonna mope around all day?"
She tossed the ball again, then looked up at her best friend, "What do you think?"
Raine sat down next to her, "Audrey seriously hasn't said a word to you."
"Not a word all day." She growled under her breath. Audrey always texted her good morning and sent her at least three texts by lunch, today was complete radio silence. She had texted Audrey but got left on read just to add insult to injury. "I don't get it," She clutched the ball, her hand glowing, "she's my brother's girlfriend. Not mine!" She threw the ball against the wall hard but didn't move her hand up quick enough and was smacked in the face with a loud smack. Raines eyes widened as she looked to the burn on the wall and Blakely's now blackening eye. "Just leave please," she muttered now equally embarrassed and mad.
Raine had known Blakely since pre prep she was only a few steps away from Audrey in the way of friendship, she knew it was best to give her time to cool off. She sighed and stood up, "call me if you need anything?"
Blakely just hung her hands over her knees and nodded, not even bothering to heal the black eye.
Raine knocked on the door, Evie opening it with a bright smile, it fell noticing the lack of a princess, "where's Blake?"
Mal looked up and cursed under her breath, even with Jane they needed to be on their toes around Blakely, they needed her trust, and they couldn't get that if she was avoiding them. "Audrey's mad at her so she's moping in our room."
"Why is she mad?" Mal asked, pretending to be concerned.
Raine gave Evie a side eye, "I don't know."
~~~
A little while later Jane came by, which confused Raine as she didn't think the VK girls would be very friendly with her considering how soft spoken she was. About ten minutes into her visit Jane started complaining about her mother. "Mom said, 'If a boy can't see the beauty within, then he's not worth it.' Can you believe it? What world does she live in?"
"Auradon," Mal answered.
Evie held up a dress she had been working on toward Raine who smiled as it looked exactly like her design, "Mal do you like it?" she asked her best friend.
"Yea it's cute, it brings out your eyes."
"We need you to make our outfits for the coronation," Raine smiled. Evie brightened up at the thought of getting to make a dress for Blakely. "Of course, I'll need to design them, but I think we can do it in no time," Evie nodded rapidly.
"I'll never get a boyfriend," Janes said, flopping back on Evie's bed.
"Boyfriends are overrated," Raine and Mal said at the same time. They looked at each other and smiled.
"How would you two know, you've never had one," Evie smirked. Raine had mentioned a lack of dating history the day prior.
"Cause I don't need one E," Mal said with an arm still around me. "They're a waste of time."
Raine scrunched up her nose a bit, "I'm asexual, not into the romance thing," she said softly with a shrug.
Mal looked at her, "really?" She let an amused smile come to her face, "I thought royals would be all about having an heir."
She shrugged again, "Not my parents really as long as I'm happy they don't care, I have two brothers' one's pansexual meaning anyone he finds attractive is subjected to his flirting and my other brother is bisexual meaning only men and women. If it mattered so much, I'm sure one of them can have an heir but like I said they don't really care."
Before she could reply, Evie gasped, "Oh I forgot to do Chad's Homework."
Mal rolled her eyes, "That's exactly what I mean."
Raines' expression darkened, "you were all over Blake last night."
Evie titled her head, "Yea so?" she brushed it off. She didn't see the problem, she flirted with everyone on the isle. Though everyone fought there, affection was not something to get bloodied over.
The blond would be princess stood up aghast, "Audrey hasn't spoken to her all day because of last night. Because her best friend was throwing herself at someone she barely knew."
Jane felt angry on Blakely's behalf it was hard being Lesbian in Auradon, and a royal in Blakely's position no less. Everyone expected her to get married to a boy make him a prince and have an heir, something that made Blakely's emotional state pretty fragile. It was like Evie was trying to make things worse. Not to mention everyone in school could tell she had a crush on Audrey everyone except for her, Ben and Audrey herself. When they started dating everyone could see Blakely was hanging one by threads, with forced smiles and fake enthusiasm. Was Evie trying to break her?
Mal needed to defuse the situation, if Raine didn't trust them she would keep Blakely away she was clearly very close to the princess. If Jane didn't trust them their very slim chance with the wand was gone. "Things are different on the isle. There's no real dating, it's more 'gang activity,'" she winced. "there's no commitment, it's why our files only list one parent. We don't know the other." That was a lie on Mal's part; she knew her father and she even knew her brother, who she needed to get off the isle now that she thought about it. Raine didn't need to know that though.
She calmed down enough to sit back down but was still fuming, so much that her hair looked as if it would glow any second now, "we don't do that here, it's wrong considering neither knows about it and both hate each other. "
"Why does she hate Chad? He seems nice enough."
Jane just shook her head it was obvious neither wanted to out Blakely without her consent and while Evie knew Mal didn't.
It felt like hours, it was really only minutes, before the tense silence was broken in the form of Lonnie walking in. "Hey, guys! I'm Lonnie." At the lack of recognition she elaborated, "My mom's Mulan?" Still nothing. "No? Anyways, I love what you've done with Jane's hair. And I know you hate us, and, well, you're evil. But do you think you could do mine?"
"Why would I do that for you?" Mal asked.
"I'll pay you 50 dollars."
"Good answer. I need to buy more material." Evie said standing up and taking the pouch, "let's see, I'm thinking, we lose the bangs, maybe some layers and some highlights," She decided.
Lonnie didn't look impressed, "yeah, yeah. I want it cool. Like Mal's"
"The split ends, too?" she glared at Evie.
Mal groaned and rolled off the bed "Okay... 'Beware, forswear, replace the old with cool hair.'" She waved her finger and Lonnie's hair grew into long locks and got much lighter.
She looked in the mirror stunned, Evie came up behind her, "I know. I know. It looks like a mop on your head. You know what? Let's cut it off, layer it..."
"No, no, no, no, no, no! I love it," Lonnie responded.
"You do?" Evie asked.
"It's just," Lonnie ripped her skirt. "Now I'm cool."
"Like ice," Mal said hanging off the bed post.
Jane looked in the mirror and ripped her skirt, "what did I just do? Mom's gonna kill me."
Raine patted the stole next to her and swiped one of Evie's sewing needles, "I'm not great but I can sew a tear," she insisted, grabbing the blue thread.
Next chapter we see Blakely again.
