Dave said, "I know what this is."It used to be a drive-in theatre, "I believe that's the concession stand over there,".
We saw the building was boarded up as we approached it. On the wall, there was some faded lettering that said "Popcorn." Dave shrugged his shoulders. "So, what are your options?" "Do the arrows help persuade people to buy popcorn?"
We went all around the building until we found a back door.
An old combination padlock kept it safe. My dark light picked up something written in glowing paint on the door. It was a string of numbers."1 3 5 6".
With a pleasant click, Jeff put the numbers into the combination lock and pulled it open. He pushed his hand on the old door, which swung open with a terrifying creak. Jeff took a peek inside.
"I can't see anything," he said.
I looked inside the door, glowing with my black light. It was useless. I cursed myself for not bringing a real flashlight. Just as I was about to suggest we head back home and return another day, I heard a click and a light appeared in the old building. Dave had found the light switch."This place looks like it hasn't been used for at least 30 years!" said Jeff. "Look at this parking lot! There are trees in it!" We came in and noticed that, except for a small layer of dust, the interior was surprisingly clean. It looked like the kind of dust you'd find in an ancient Egyptian tomb. The shelves were empty, and on the other side of the room, a cabinet stood.
Dave approached it carefully and slowly opened it.
"Wow, look at this!" he exclaimed. Candy boxes were stacked high on the shelf. I recognised Cracker-Jacks and Hershey's Bars, but the labels were very old. I immediately grabbed a huge box of chocolate after dropping my black light on the floor."Guys!" Jeff shouted before I could examine them any further. Look at this!" He was standing over a floor hatch. He'd grabbed it and was peering down into the darkness. "Maybe there's another light down there?" he said. He walked down the cellar steps, and Dave and I followed him, looking for a light switch.
I was halfway down the steps when I heard a click and a low lightbulb in the dusty basement glowed. "Found it," said Jeff. We made our way towards the light, bumping against empty shelves and weird garbage along the way. Canvas bags filled the floor like potato sacks. They were covered in dust. I noticed several vintage film containers on one of the shelves.
We rushed over and began reading the titles. It seems that the majority of the films were from the 1970s and 1980s. "Dracula Returns"... "Night of the Wolf People"... I didn't recognize any of the titles.
When we heard a loud whirring sound, we all jumped... It sounded familiar, like an electric power tool, and it looked to be coming from near the stairwell. The shadows relocated and changed as we looked through the opening at the top of the stairs. Finally, the noise stopped. For a few minute, we stood there, our hearts pounding hard in our chests.
Then we all went over to see what was going on. My mind couldn't make sense of what it was seeing. Iron bars had already been placed across the door we had just passed through. Jeff rushed up the steps as far as he could and grabbed the iron bars, angrily rattling them. They refused to move.
On the iron bars, there was some type of controlled machine. But it was so black that I couldn't see anything. I took out my black light from my pocket. That's when I realised I'd forgotten about it upstairs.
Jeff took a position close to me and held up his phone. I could just make out a huge metal box placed on the basement ceiling in the dim light. I couldn't see this equipment even if there was a way to access it.
