Chapter 8 (Not where I want to Be 💜)
It has been a full 6 months and those things have been showing up all of the place. Gaster and I have been discussing them and he told me that he had a co-worker in a past life work with and this was the outcome achieved. Those strange creatures were Called "Amalgamates" and they were created by monsters as an attempt to pave way for an escape. Which made lots of sense you wouldn't have to kill any humans if you could just engineer souls of equal power to a human soul and then open the barrier. Gaster started the project but then dropped it as it was requested from the king to be stopped. Perhaps due to it being a ethical issue. Gaster and I have theorized that this universe is the byproduct of him being erased from existence and the universe being unable to hold its own.
Before all of this underground different universe bullshit I was a quantum physics nerd.On my free time I would study the way things worked and why they worked that way. Never thought something that was just merely a hobby would turn out to be something way bigger. Gaster and I have been taking small expeditions just trying get any idea of what we've been seeing, And it's far worse than I or anyone else could have ever anticipated. We managed to make it to a city near the beach. We brought everyone with us and this city held so many Amalgamates that they crushed on top of each other. The water was vile and just looked down right disgusting and what makes it worse is that the way the water looked stretched for miles and miles to the point that I could not understand how our house even had fresh water to drink. This journey to this place lasted 2 months and it 4 months ago now.
After seeing that morale was low but curiosity was so high. I wasn't afraid of anything this world had to offer none of seemed phase me, but that's mostly because I don't need to show fear when every is already terrified as it. If there was one thing I knew we were all on the same page about it was that no one wanted to be in crappy universe and yet we all yearn to know more about it. Scarf the new monster that has been hanging around seemed to be the only one who was against trying to leave alongside Gaster who didn't want to leave because he felt that a normal world had nothing to offer him which in of itself wasn't even true ,but I digress.
Gaster and I planned how we would try to leave but in the end it seemed as though leaving would mean having to fight our way through that mountain. I remember the last time I climbed that mountain. I was severely underprepared but I made it as far as I could with just the items that I had available to me. I died and didn't even have a proper weapon but this time it will be different. I will live because that's what I have to do. I've learned and plan to never forget what I've collected.
"Belle, Vex, James, Dax, Patton, Goose, frisk, Chara, Ashley, G, scarf, and myself" 12 people and 2 want to don't want to leave. We can't force people to come with us but I'm sure they won't mind walking us to the door. So I make a plan. I set everyone up in groups of 2 groups of 5 while G and Scarf will be split up amongst them. Effectively making it 2 groups of 6 but there's a reason I didn't include them in the group the first time.
We all know the way out the of the underground but for those who didn't make it far they will teamed with someone who knows there way around the place.Once we all reach Snowdin we meet back up insure everyone's safety and G and scarf will split away from the group and then it will be up to the most responsible to control the groups. Patton and I have decided that we are the ones who will hold the burden of the rest of the group.
[4 days before Leaving]
We have everything ready. These next 4 days are mental health breaks. Like taking long breaths of air before doing something daring. Everyone has been sitting around relaxing. I can't deny that I was having fun as well. These people I'm surrounded by each glow with a specific type of power. Even Vex who struggles with their confidence glows with a seemingly noticeable amount of Tenacity despite them thinking less of themself.
Everyone cheers them on and sometimes they go to far and make very Vex uncomfortable, but sometimes they surprise us with how much confidence they have gotten back. They are ok with playing violin in front of us and one day they were super casual and just came down stairs with a kazoo and played the entirety of Gangsta's paradise with out taking a single breath in between ,and then just went back upstairs. It was a shock but everyone got a good laugh out of it and I can't be mad about something that makes me laugh.
Everyone seemed so open and fun. I've learned from observing people and living my own short experiences that people tend to have little ways of showing love. I show love by making bracelets and depending on the level of craftsmanship depends on what I think people like. Dax is simple Orange beads or orange wiring with a tight fit that won't stop him as he is working out or doing something. Those are things I think about. I've made something for everyone and I can tell the others do that as well.
Vex bedazzled James' boots and he loved it. James and Dax had a really long conversation about fighting. Dax Helped Belle Polish a sword. Belle showed Chara how to wield a sword ; why anyone would need to know that is beyond me but seeing where we are at this point yeah that could be useful. Chara helped Goose with clean up. Goose went bird watching with Patton. Patton taught Frisk how to knit. Frisk made me a pair of gloves and I have yet to take them off. And that just leaves me and Ashley.
What bountiful joy have I given to someone? Well I help Gaster prepare for the worse. I made scarf a new scarf that had there name sewn into ;granted their name is scarf so it was more like labeling the item. I as well help Ashley see up their tutu which was fun. But I'm a bit more proud of what I had set up. The Amalgamates from what I've seen resemble monsters that were attached to one another to create a horrid unethical fusion of monster and humans alike and if that's the case than they shouldn't be impossible to deal with...hopefully. I'm hoping that if I find more clues that these are questions that can answered far easier ,and I'm already prepared for the worse and If I don't find out more as long as no one dies that's a win for me.
[Day of expedition]
Within Four days we managed to get a ton done. Goose and James went back to that abandoned city and managed to grab some supplies only to find out that half that crap was expired or beyond repair. Guns that couldn't shoot due to rust and old age, grenades that don't even blow up, and upon further examination the box was dated for 2020. To us we thought we were in 2022 but I highly doubt it since all of this gun powder is expired so badly that Even fire can't light it. We looked for gas , Expired. Hell the only oil that wasn't absolutely expired was Vegetable oil and coconut oil. So we decided to leave the idea of driving anything in the past. In these 3 days all we learned was how dire the situation was.
On the 2nd day Ashley brought back 10 badly worn out and torn composition notebooks. Each one was written by a different person detailing life and compromise with there new situation. They give no context as to what happened it's more of telling what daily life is now like after the apocalypse and how they believe the monster they are forced to fight keep mutating before dying. The first time someone mentions this is in the 7th book. The excerpt that caught my attention goes as follows:
"We've been living this way for almost 2 years. In 2 years we have killed many of the monsters that haunt us and we've seen what it's dying phase is like but now they won't die. No matter how we try they just won't die. Their necrosis stage is completely different from a human; the monster once killed cannot hold its form which leads it to slowly melt into mush and then after a few days the body turns into dust. That is how we knew they were dead. They were dead and nothing was going to get them back up nothing. Now they won't die they mutate and as they mutate they become harder and harder to kill. There was a weird anthropomorphic fish monster and we fought it it fought with skill and grace. Spears flung from every which way things like water and even air were turned into a spears that were thrown and flung at us. We tried killing it over and over and over but it got back up. We've fought it so much that it is now 10 times the size it was 1 year ago when we first found it and it won't stop growing."
Of course I did my best to avoid reading these to the others as it would cause panic unnecessarily. It's better that they don't know rather than know and have second thoughts. Because after reading that this is not the place I want to be at.
