stella loved summers with the fishers and the conklins. she loved them more than she loved her own house. they were her home.

she always goes with her mom and her brother. her dad was pretty much out of the picture. i mean, he would visit for the fourth of july like all the other dads. she never had a great relationship with her dad either. nobody knows what started the weird feud but now there's a weird tension between the two of them.

but none of that mattered right now. because this summer was going to be the best summer ever. she could feel it.

stella was almost done packing for the trip. conrad was blowing up her phone, telling her to hurry up and get over there. he was already bored out of his mind and needed his best friend's company.

jeremiah had already informed her about a few parties and events that he wanted her to attend as well. those were definitely going to keep her busy. stella wanted to have a "hot girl summer" and those parties were the way to do it.

yep. this was going to be the best summer ever.

"stella!" her mom shouted from across the house. "we're leaving! let's go!"

stella grabbed her backpack and her suitcase and ran out of her room.

after stella's mom had gone over manners, the topic of curfews was brought up. stella's brother, andy, was frustrated that he wasn't allowed to "stay out late". stella was also frustrated, but she knew that if she really wanted to, she could sneak out with conrad or jeremiah. probably jeremiah.

since stella already had her license, she was the one driving. they had all been taking turns on the way to the summer house.

stella started pulling the car over into a small parking lot. "what are you doing?" her brother asked. they weren't trying to make any more stops on the way there, but she couldn't resist the 7/11 on the side of the road.

"i'm hungry and i'm sure you guys have to go to the bathroom," she explained. she was right. they did have to go to the bathroom.

while her mom and her brother were in the bathroom, stella grabbed a few snacks. she had her wallet on her, so she could pay for herself. she grabbed an arnold palmer arizona drink and chex mix. she also needed some pink grapefruit chapstick. that was her favorite.

while she was looking at the chapsticks and pacing around the aisle, she had bumped into someone. "i'm so sorry," stella mumbled, trying to retrieve the items that had fallen.

"oh, don't worry 'bout it." the boy that she had ran into looked up from the ground. when his eyes landed on the girl, his face started turning more red. "sorry, uh, sorry. yeah, here's that."

stella smiled and quietly said, "oh, thanks."

he returned the chex mix that she had dropped and chuckled. "uh, i'm daniel... by the way."

"i'm stella," she returned. his smile was shy and that made her heart feel warm. "um, i'll see you around hopefully."

"yeah! yeah, hopefully. uh, there's a bonfire... kind of thing tonight. if you wanna go, you don't have to- i just wanted to put it out there," daniel rambled.

the girl decided to stop him before he could embarrass himself more. "i'll try to go. my friends are probably going anyways."

"cool, cool... see you, stella!" he waved as he walked away.

"yeah, see you."

the rest of the drive there was pretty peaceful. it was andy's turn to drive and he was an okay driver. stella was beyond excited to be reunited with her best friends.

their car pulled into the drive way and the boys and isabel were already outside. isabel's clothes were soaking wet. stella immediately knew that she had been "belly flopped".

stella stepped out of the car and immediately ran up to conrad. he wrapped his arms around his best friend, taking in the safe feeling that her presence provided.

"connie!" she smiled, letting him go. "no more glasses?"

he looked down shyly. "nope. no more glasses."

"you look great," she complimented him. it was a friendly comment.

next was belly then steven. they all gave hugs and mentioned how good everyone looked.

the last one was jeremiah. he was already doing an iconic shimmy dance in place. he awaited his hug while she walked up to him. when she reached him, she playfully shoved his shoulder. "enough of your shit dancing, j," she laughed with him.

his smile was really big. he had been waiting for her to get here because that's when the fun would start. when she wasn't keeping conrad company, she was a really fun person to party with.

"we're definitely going to that bonfire tonight, right?" jeremiah checked.

stella nodded and copied his silly dance moves. "oh yeah. definitely."

jeremiah laughed and finally pulled her into a comfortable hug. "i missed you so much, stel. you don't even know."

"connie seems to be moping around extra today, so hopefully i'll get some time off to hang with you this summer," stella joked. she was half-joking because she really did want to have a fun summer and hanging out with jeremiah was going to be the way to do it.

"well, i'm gonna make sure we have the best summer literally ever," he smiled. they both broke out into laughter and headed inside where the rest of the crew was.
