𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 // 𝙟𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙖𝙝 𝙛𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙧

[ 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙣 ]

stella had heard something about how isabel had plans tonight, which was good because that meant that they could get ready for their dates together. susannah was sitting comfortably in a chair, watching the two girls gossip.

from the looks of their outfits, isabel's date was much more formal than stella, at least she thought. isabel was wearing a cute crochet top with jean shorts while stella was wearing a pair of running shorts and an oversized t-shirt. she also had on white high-top converse with fun socks. she made sure to wear all of her jewelry, meaning her bracelets, her necklaces, her rings, and her earrings.

it was just songwriting on the beach, right?

"tell me more about this cameron?" stella let out a giggle. she was trying to stay still while applying a small amount of mascara on each eye. that was all the make up that she really wanted to do for tonight.

isabel smiled shyly. "well... first of all, i'm pretty sure he goes by cam. he's cute and he's really nice. he cares about the environment, i think. if i'm remembering correctly, he's a vegetarian... or a vegan. i can't remember which one. but enough about mine. tell me more about this daniel."

stella gave herself one last look in the mirror then sat on isabel's bed. "well, he's also nice, like cam, i guess. he plays, like, a shit ton of instruments. he has really nice hair. uh, i don't know. i wouldn't call him shy, he's not shy. he's funny..."

laurel walked into the room and tilted her head at the two teenagers. "girls, you look nice."

stella smiled and did another final check in the mirror before attempting leaving the room. "thanks, laur."

"hey, where are you going?" lauel stopped her.

stella sighed. this is what she was trying to avoid. "uh, just... hanging out."

"with?" she pushed.

"uh- it's just... a boy," stella admitted. she knew that no matter how she said it, laurel was going to be a little skeptical of whoever she was hanging out with, especially if it was a boy.

laurel shot stella a disappointed look. "so you're gonna miss the book party?"

"sorry, laur," stella mumbled, feeling terrible now. "i can cancel-"

"don't cancel your plans for me! have fun, stella... and um, be safe," she said, adding a little serious note at the end. "seriously, boys these days are brutal!"

stella shook her head and cringed. "okay, okay. thank you, bye," she laughed awkwardly.

she left the room the minute she got the chance. on her way downstairs she spotted four boys squeezed onto one couch, playing video games. she didn't want to interrupt but she did want to let them know that she was going out so that they wouldn't worry.

she swung her arms by her sides awkwardly. "see you guys later."

jeremiah was the first to look up from the game that they were playing. "damn!" he threw down his controller and approached the now smiling girl. 

the three other boys complained about his dismissal of the game, while he tripped over their shoes to get to stella.

"you... look... hot." he took her by her hands and twirled her around, as if they were ballroom dancing.

"it's just a shirt and shorts, j," she smiled at the ground.

andy flipped around on the couch with a serious expression. "hey, hey, hey, stop flirting with my sister."

"shut up, andy," stella rolled her eyes.

"no, you shut up," he shot back.

the whole time, jeremiah had his arms crossed with a smile creeping onto his face while he was essentially checking stella out.

andy did a double take of stella's appearance. "well- you look good, though."

jeremiah laughed and caught stella's attention once again. "you driving with, or are you meeting us there?"

"i'm not going to the book party," she replied. "i'm going to the beach."

the look that conrad had sent her didn't go unnoticed by stella. it was the same look that he gave her when she told him that one of her old boyfriends was mean to her. it was the same look that he gave her when he caught stella sneaking out to meet a boy in the middle of the night. it was the look that he gave her when something didn't sit right with him.

in a way, stella felt relieved to have seen that look on his face. it meant that, deep down, they were still best friends. that he still cared about her, at least a little bit.

"with who?" conrad asked impulsively.

stella's phone chimed, meaning that daniel was probably her to pick her up. "uh, okay. he's here."

"is this daniel?" jeremiah mumbled quietly so that conrad couldn't hear, just in case this was a secret or something.

i asked for conrad, he thought. not for me. for him.

unfortunately, conrad did hear and he was jealous. he wasn't jealous that she was seeing somebody. he didn't like her as more than a best friend. he was jealous that jeremiah was slowly taking his spot as her best friend. her number one.

"yeah, it's not a big deal. just some song writing on the beach, you know?" stella said quickly before hurrying out the door.

"don't have too much fun!" he winked teasingly before she ran out the door.

stella just laughed loudly in response and closed the front door.

honk. honk.

stella looked ahead to find daniel in a convertible. a really nice convertible. "jesus christ!"

"you ready?" he shouted proudly over the summer music playing from inside the car. she walked towards his car with a smile, making him turn down the music. "alright."

they pulled out of the driveway with one of stella's favorite songs playing. they started singing the lyrics together and that's when she knew that this could be the start of one of the best summers ever.

"put your hand in mine

you know that i want to be with you all the time!

you know that i won't stop until i make you mine!"

i really hope that this chapter isn't confusing, 'cause i had to rewrite some of it mid-chapter... so yeah. if it's confusing, please tell me where/when it's confusing so that i can fix it. THANK YOU :)
