002- the halloween party

Indi and Billy stood outside the car waiting for Max before they finally saw her skating up to them, later than usual. "You're late again." Billy said, still leaning against the car. "Yeah I had to get catch up homework." She replied. "Jesus, I don't care. You're late again and you're skating home do you hear me?" He said before getting into the car.

"This place is such a shithole." Billy sighed as he drove home. "It's not that bad." Max spoke up from the back seat. "I mean I guess it could be worse." Indi agreed.

"No?" He said as he rolled down the passenger window, releasing the smell of the farm across the road. "Hmm- you smell that Max? That's actually shit. Cow shit." He plugged his nose.

"I don't see any cows." She spoke again from the backseat. "Clearly you haven't met the Highschool girls." He retorted. "Can you shut up for two seconds?" Indi finally spoke again, resulting in silence for a mere second.

"So what you like it here now?" He asked sharply, looking over to Max. "No-" she responded quickly. "Then why are you defending it." He glared. "I'm not." "Sure sounds like it."

"It's just- we're stuck here so-" she left her sentence open. "Hm. You're right, we're stuck here. And whose fault is that?" He asked. "Yours." Indi whispered from the passenger seat.

"What'd you say?" He licked his lips. "You heard me." She said, turning to look at him. "You said it's my fault?" He asked. "You know whose fault it is. Say it." He ordered, earning a glare.

"Indi- say it." He said rather calmly. "SAY IT!" He yelled lunging his face in the passenger seat, expecting a flinch from the girl, but getting nothing in return. He pressed his foot all the way down on the gas, turning the music up and beating the steering wheel.

"Billy slow down." Max said as she realized there was a group of kids riding their bikes in the street. "Oh these your new hick friends?" He asked. "No! I don't know them!" She yelled. "I guess you won't care if I hit 'em then huh? I get bonus points if I get 'em all in one go?"

"Billy stop, it's not funny!" Indi yelled over the music. "Billy come on stop it, it's not funny!" Max shouted, the car getting closer to the kids. "Stop it!" She yelled as she reached over to grab the steering wheel, turning it to the other side of the street. "Yeah! That was a close one, huh?" He yelled. Earning a dumbfounded look from both Indi and Max.

~*~*~*~

Everyone was prepping for Halloween, Max and Indi both rummaging through their rooms to find scraps to put a costume together. Indi had put together a pink t-shirt with a black leather jacket and pants, walking downstairs.

"And who are you supposed to be?" Her mom asked, more cheery than usual. "I'm a background character from Grease." She gave a sarcastic smile and walked out to the porch. After deciding Billy may not be the best chauffeur, she figured walking to Tina's party was ultimately safer than riding with Billy.

She walked up to Tina's house to find everyone chanting for Billy and declaring him the 'keg king'. As she walked through the rooms to find the kitchen she overheard Billy and his friends telling Steve Harrington, of all people, to 'eat it'.

Steve Harrington was the most popular name in Hawkins High, 'King Steve' they called him. People in Hawkins worshipped the popular kids like they were gods in their own fictional reality, and Steve just so happened to be the top tier. But of course, Indi didn't know this until she had heard endless amounts of hallway gossipers talk about Steve and his golden relationship with Nancy Wheeler. America's sweethearts, at least to Hawkins.

Indi made her way to the kitchen, grabbing a cup and filling it up to the brim with the mysterious red liquid that she didn't bother to ask what it was. She felt a presence behind her when she turned around to see Billy standing behind her. "What do you want Billy." She asked harshly. "I want you to leave." He stared.

"Quit being an ass." She tried to shove passed him, but he stopped her. "Oh, I'm the ass? Is that also the reason why I'm the one who got us stuck here?." He raised his voice. "Billy drop it. I could care less about this stupid party, might as well go find Max." She shoved passed him, starting to walk away.

"Yeah, just go home to your little bitch of a sister!" He yelled, causing Indi to turn around. "Leave." He crossed his arms. "I told you to quit calling her a bitch." She walked back up to him, staring him in the eyes. "Yeah? Or what?" He asked.

Before she realized it, her hand had made its way up to Billy's face, slapping him firmly across the cheek. She turned to walk away, hiding the light shock that covered her face. Even Indi herself was surprised that she had slapped him, especially at a party, in front of everyone. She walked through the crowd at a faster than normal pace before she got to the front porch. She quickly sat down, not bothering to notice an annoyed Steve Harrington sitting next to her.

"Sorry, didn't realize anyone was sitting here." She explained awkwardly, starting to get up from the hard concrete porch. "It's fine, you can sit there." He said, tone of voice matching the annoyed expression on his face. "Just- how did you not notice a literal person sitting here?" He asked.

"You're wearing all black- in the dark." She stated, pressing her lips into an awkward line. "Tom Cruise- Risky Business?" She questioned, motioning to his outfit. "Precisely." He gave a light laugh. "Uh- someone from.. Grease?" He asked hesitantly. "Yes, actually." She replied.

"So why are you, 'King Steve', sitting outside instead of partying with everyone else?" She furrowed her brows. "Lord, no need to make me sound so
douche-y." He defended. "And I could be asking you the same thing."
