Jade stood.

She knew that she had already aroused suspicion by walking in invisible; she didn't need to be found out.

She couldn't make out the faces in the room clearly, since it was dark, but the voice of the person was more than enough for Jade to recognize her.

'Must be the wind,' a female voice said.

'But the room is password protected, Artemis—'

'Let's just get on with the meeting, shall we?'

Jade smirked. She owed her mother a thank you.

'Yes,' another female voice said. This one was intimidating, dark, and mysterious. At the other end of the room, a figure

stood. Jade could just make out long, probably dark hair, and blue eyes that somehow shone in the dark.

'We have updates on the girl,' the woman said.

'Which girl, Azarea?' her mother said.

Azarea chuckled. 'Ah, I forgot that you've been missing meetings, Ms. Maxwell. I meant the Girl of the Prophecy. You know, the one who'll save our planet.'

Jade's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. What planet? If a planet was in danger, they would have known. They would have sent out help. Who were these people? Why were they having meetings here in secret? And most importantly, how and why was her mother involved in all this?

'Oh, that is excellent news!' Artemis exclaimed in delight. 'So, who is she?'

'Jadina Celeste Maxwell; Jade for short. I believe you know her, Artemis?'

Jade's eyes nearly popped out of her sockets. She mustered all of her will power to keep her from exclaiming and shouting out loud. She was involved with all this, too? And she was to save some planet from destruction? Jade didn't know what to think.

Her mother's reaction was similar, if not ten times more dramatic. She sputtered. She coughed. She coughed so violently, that someone sitting nearby had to support her.

'Know her? Of course, I know her! She's my daughter, for humankind's sake!'

'Ah, that's excellent news, then!' Azarea said, rubbing her hands in glee. 'So, I am assuming you'll have no problem in sending her for this mission?'

'Of course, I have a problem! my daughter; I can't risk her!'

'What do you mean, you can't risk her?'

'This is a very dangerous quest; she could die!'

'That's true, but it is for the good of our planet!' Azarea said furiously. 'You say you care about this planet--'

'Of course, I care!'

'If you did, you would worry about the greater good, more than your own selfish interests! Your daughter is our future!'

'ENOUGH!'

Jade could not bear it any more. She was seventeen. She was old enough to make these decisions on her own. She wasn't going to let her mother, and some woman she didn't even know, take those decisions for her.

Her mother's fury knew no bounds.

'You followed me, Jade?' she stormed. 'I thought I told you to stay at home!

'Maybe,' Jade said. 'But when curiosity rises, rules don't matter,' she said, somewhat quoting Creskentus Wadia, a world famous psychiatrist.

Azarea clapped her hands. Jade turned to her.
