Jon Jarl's journal, part one: The Warrior's Daughter

For several years after Galloper was executed, he returned around the autumn to haunt the lands around Jorvik. I know he's angry. I know he's seeking revenge. But I do not understand why he returns. It seems that he is looking for something. Maybe if I approached him when he came riding his dark horse, he would leave everyone else alone. But how can such a lost and angry soul be able to find peace for himself? This must be stopped. Galloper must get his rest. I can no longer have a headless horseman riding around my kingdom, scaring and beheading my people. If there is anyone who has to do something about it, it's me who's responsible.

16 Years Later

For all eternity I have sought. Through every valley, mountain, meadow, forest, and plain on this island. It was not where I had expected it to be. But there it is. The person I've been looking for for 16 years. I finally found her! The warrior's daughter, Dagny Thrymson.

Far towards the Mistfall region in the east, beyond the wild horse reserve Wildwoods, Jon Jarl found the girl he had been desperately searching for, ever since the day Gunnar Thrymson was executed. Dagny Thrymson, daughter of Gunnar and Annalise Goldstein. Annalise had made sure that the druids took Dagny to a safe place, a small Viking village along the southeast coast, Dundull. Jon Jarl had now ruled Jorvik for at least 20 years and never knew that Dundull even existed. A small beautiful village with a few villagers and some of Aideen's most faithful druids. When Jon Jarl arrived in the village, everyone there knew who he was, even though he did not know them. The villagers welcomed their king and made him feel at home in Dundull. The villagers were very nice and the Jarl enjoyed his stay there. After getting acquainted with the village, he presented his case to the village leader.

The leader of the village recognized Annalise Goldstein and knew exactly who Dagny Thrymson was. The village leader showed the way to a small cottage outside the village, which was well hidden behind the forest, bushes, and a river. Outside the cottage stood two saddled horses eating hay. In the front yard there was a small plot of land and behind the cottage was a barn and a larger paddock. Inside the pasture stood two cows, three pigs, and a goat. A druid woman and Dagny Thrymson lived in the cottage. The woman was at least surprised to see her king had found his way to Mistfall and Wildwoods. But she welcomed the Jarl into the cottage and he got to meet Dagny for the first time. He did not have any expectations of what kind of person Dagny would be. But when he saw her, she reminded him well of her father, Gunnar.

Dagny Thrymson turned out to be about 165 cm tall and slim. She had a golden light brown complexion and light pink lips. Emerald green eyes and blond hair, just like her father. She was dressed in a Viking costume that was traditional to Dundull. A gray-green shirt and cloth trousers, a black leather vest, and fur boots. Around her neck hung the amulet that Annalise had given her. An amulet made of a runestone shard, with engraved runestone writing, a protective spell. The Jarl's heart was filled with remorse and sorrow when he saw Dagny. How would he explain to the young girl that it was because of him that her parents were dead? But instead of telling Dagny the truth about her parents, he came to her with a request. The Jarl asked Dagny for help in Jarlaheim to stop the headless horseman once and for all. He promised her to live in the royal house and that Dagny's horse, Frigg, would get a place of honor in the royal stable. Just as the Jarl had now guessed, Dagny was brave and adventurous. The young girl was waiting for new challenges and adventures. Just like a certain young man about 30 years ago.

When everything was clear and decided, the Jarl returned to Jarlaheim and for the first time, Dagny left her home in Dundull. She accompanied the king and was allowed to settle in the royal house. Once she had arrived and got to know her room, it felt gloomy and heavy in her heart. She didn't know how or why. But explained it only as homesickness for Dundull. She didn't want to disappoint her king and promised to stay in Jarlaheim. The Jarl knew he could not force her to stay. If Dagny wants to return to Dundull, she's entitled to it. But she decided to stay. A few days later, she joined the military and began her warrior training. The same training that Gunnar had committed once upon a time.
