Riley's POV:Today, Christian and I were on our way to Oregon for another speech. We wanted to fly, but we wanted to take a little rode trip, so we drove there.
When we got there, we met the principle in the office. He greeted us, and introduced us to his kids, who looked kind of freaked out. When it was almost time to give speech, I went backstage and practiced what I was going to say. Why the speaker called me onstage, I walked up, smiled and waved.
"Hello," I began with every speech, "as you may know, my name is Riley Jennings..." And so on. I said most of the stuff that I said in the past few speeches, so it was kind of easy to remember what order to put things in.
After I was done, I met Christian backstage. "Nice job hot shot!" He said like he always said when I got done with my speech.
"Oh come on," I say, "you say that every time... Come up with something else to say when I'm done."
"Alright..." He said thinking. "Let's start over. Move back." I scooted back a little. "Farther." I shuffled back a little more. "Come on! Take three big steps back," and so I did. "Good, now turn around. Good. Now, wall to me just like you do when you get done with your speech.
I walked and skipped to Christian, not normally like I would, but I wanted to make him laugh. He didn't laugh, but he smiled. That's a start.
"How'd I do?" I asked like a little girl.
"You were absolutely AMAZBALLS!"
"Whatever..." I said, "good enough.
On our way out, we collected our prize, then went off to Burger King for a bite to eat. We decided to leave the restaurant, and take our food and eat it in the car because people were staring, and maybe even talking about us, and we got scared. That's what you get I guess for being popular...
We finished quick because people were starting to come outside and snap a few pictures with their phones. We then took off on our four hour trip back home. We stopped at a general store to get doughnuts just because we felt the need to.
When we were in Minnesota, about one and a half hours away from home, Christian was getting tired and closed his eyes for a second.
"Wake up doofis!" I screamed at him.
"Yeah, yeah," he said pretending he was awake the whole time. "Just a little sleepy."
"You want me to drive?"
"Yeah... why don't you-"
"CHRISTIAN!" I yelled again. "WAKE UP!!"
"Alright," he said, "lets stop somewhere... I need to rest for like... twenty minutes." And so we stopped, and I took a rest, too. When we were back on the road, Christian pulled his phone out and went on Instagram.
"Christian stop."
"OMG. Riley look at this!"
He handed me his phone. It was a picture of Taylor Swift's album- Taylor Swift photo shopped with the little girl from vine; the one when the parents told hr she was going to Disneyland, the little girl's sister was crying, but the little girl made a face... like why ew... i don't like Disneyland. Anyways, her face was photo shopped into Taylor Swift's album and it was pretty funny.
"Oh my god..." I said. "That is so-" then Christian's phone dinged. He got a text. "Who's it from?"
"My bud David," his thumbs going nuts hitting the keyboard.
"Christian, come on. Pay attention."
"Yeah, hold on." Just as he said that, he dropped his phone down by the pedals. "Uh, whoops..." He reached down to get it and we started moving forward. I looked at the street light. It was still red.
"Christian! What are you-"
The car sped up. I could see a Walmart truck heading for us on my right. Christian popped up his head, looking at me and out my window. I heard the truck honk and looked at Christian. He held my hand as we got thrown across the air, and onto another car. Our car landed somewhere in a ditch. I couldn't breath. I couldn't see. Tomorrow was unfortunately today. Tomorrow was today. Tomorrow was my day.
