The next morning I woke up pretty early due to being happy from the fact, that it wasn't just a dream about me being free to finally go home. Shadow helped me a lot actually. Since I felt pretty energetic and didn't need so many hours of sleep, I wondered if he did more than just healing my shoulder.

Currently, I was sitting on a chair in the kitchen, a bowl of cereals - literally DROWNING in milk - was nicely stimulating my nose by its scent and it only fueled the hunger I felt in my stomach. I eagerly took a spoonful of the cereals and munched on it happily while pulling my phone out of a pocket of my black shorts, unlocking the screen I clicked on an icon of random game and decided to entertain myself while feeding my growling stomach. I was going like this for about 30 minutes before standing up and washing the completely empty bowl along with the spoon. Putting the things back to their places I suddenly paused when I saw the package of the coffee beans on the kitchen counter. It reminded me of the spirit, who has been following me since the moment I took the collar with the jingle bell. That now made me wonder, if he even wants it back. Because last time I asked him about it, I got an uncertain answer from him. Or rather reaction, since he just backed off and then disappeared.
"Shadow? May I ask you something?" I let the question echo through my kitchen as I walked over to the fridge, opening its door I stared into it for a moment before grabbing a bottle of strawberry juice and closing the fridge I moved over to the counter again, so I could pour some to an empty glass. Getting no answer whenever I needed to talk to the ghost already became a normal routine for me, so I wasn't surprised even a bit. Only more disappointed. Seriously, why was he doing this?

A sudden sound of doorbell echoing through the house made me jump slightly, gasp quietly and even spill a bit of the juice on my peach chest.
"Urgh, great!" I growled in irritation as I put the glass on the counter and grabbing a handkerchief I tried to remove the liquid from the fur on my chest while walking over to the door and opening it.
"I hope you- oh... hi Tails," I was ready to scold the person at my door, but when I saw my fox friend, I instantly softened, since it wasn't exactly his fault this happened to me. He gave me a little confused look before chuckling.
"I'm sorry, Sonic," he apologized and I shook my head while gesturing for him to come in as I went to throw the hankie to the trash. Of course it didn't much help, since a bit of my peach fur was now colored with pale pink color.
Couldn't it be at least just water? I thought still upset about it a bit, but tried to push it away, since I didn't want to stay angry all day. Especially after getting such rather magical treatment from the mysterious black hedgehog only Rouge and I knew about. And to some extent also Tails, who entered my house, closed the door and made his way to my living room. I soon joined him with the glass of juice in my hand.

"How have you been?" he asked me casually and I shrugged.
"As usual, nothing changed at all," I replied and offered the juice to him. He nodded and I went to the kitchen to pour some of it to a glass for him. After that I brought it to him and he accepted it with a soft smile on his face.
"Thanks!" he said happily and drank a bit of it. I nodded and smiled back at him while sitting down on the couch.
"I have something new to show you," he said mysteriously and put his glass on the table, while I kept holding mine in my hand. Tilting my head curiously I raised my eyebrow.
"What is it, buddy?" I asked eagerly.
He then grabbed his small backpack and pulled out a little device with a few buttons on its sides.
"I managed to create something like a spirit box," he explained and I widened my eyes.
"Spirit box? But... that's just scary, isn't it?" I asked in slight fear. Not from Shadow. But from some possible other spirits we would get to hear trying to communicate with us through the device.
"Well... you are already in contact with one spirit, maybe you could ask him to communicate with us through this," he gave me a response, which I didn't feel the most positive about. Setting my glass of juice next to Tails' I sighed and shook my head afterwards.
"I don't think it is a good idea, Tails," I said honestly while looking into his eyes. The disappointment was pouring out of those blue irises almost instantly after I said that.
"Oh come on, we can at least give it a try!" he tried to convince me and did something I would call a sort of 'cute crime' - he pouted and made a puppy eyes at me while lowering his ears, knowing so well, that it works everytime. I averted my gaze and at first thought about it all properly. Hopefully we won't meet some evil spirits, I thought and gulped afterwards before slowly moving my gaze back to my fox friend. He was still pouting at me, how persistent boy!
"Okay.... we can try it... but if we hear any other spirit, I will destroy that thing," I gave him a warning, which he nodded at while smiling excitedly.
"Alright! Though, it would be shame to destroy it," he took my words seriously, but I just shrugged.
"To me it wouldn't be shame," I replied with no bigger care about the thing. Tails frowned at my words.
"I have been working on it for at least two days, Sonic!" he complained and I sighed.
"Sorry, buddy.. didn't mean it that seriously," I apologized and he calmed down.
"Good! I am just trying to maybe help the spirit? I mean, he is stuck here for a reason, so if we communicate with him and try to solve the problem, maybe we can help him get on the other side," he explained his intentions and to me it actually made sense.
"That's really nice of you," I complimented him while softly patting his head. Even tho I already know, why Shadow is still here in this world, I let Tails do his job, since he surely wants to try how it works. And I myself feel curious about it.
