Chapter Five: Fair is Foul and Foul is Fair
Jude checked their phone, plastered with NCT stickers.
"Jamie wants to know if we want to hang out and watch Joey and Noah's game. He says he's lonely because Harrison is home studying."
Jude and Dane exchanged sighs. It got old, going to basketball games. It was definitely not Jude's cup of tea and Dane had been to millions of games to watch his brother play, and it was deadly boring for him as well. Plus, over the last couple of years, listening to Harrison gush over his boyfriend's body while they eye fucked each other wasn't Dane's favorite activity. And...of course Jamie's attention was always glued to Noah, while his best friend played, stopping every few minutes to look adoringly at the blond boy. Which Jamie never acknowledged. Which was tiresome. It would probably be worse now that they were a couple.
"No, I don't think..."
"I already replied we'd come. Let's go, Dane. You know we shouldn't leave Jamie alone. Luke is around here somewhere.' Jude said briskly, hooking their arm through Dane's, glancing around, making sure that playboy wasn't hiding out anywhere nearby.
Dane wearily nodded. Luke had made it pretty clear with his actions this morning, that despite continuing his never ending need to hook up, he still had a thing for Jamie. And Jamie was sweet and funny and kind of a ditz sometimes, so Dane had a hard time believing he was Luke proof, even now that he and Noah were finally together. Leaving him alone at school, even in plain sight of his boyfriend, was probably not a good idea.
The gym was loud. Dane really disliked how every sneaker squeal and ball bounce, every cough and cheer, echoed noisily in the large space. The acoustics were amazing, and he could only imagine what it would be like to play the piano in here, but .... Basketball... Dane was resigned. He couldn't seem to get away from it no matter how hard he tried. His parents, at least, were happy when he said he went to a game. It gave Dane something to talk about the few times they sat down to eat dinner together.
Jamie waved cheerily from the bleachers, beckoning his friends closer. Dane smiled. Jamie really was a ball of sunshine, at least when he wasn't a little black raincloud of angst and despair. Today, after all his dreams came true these last few days, he was practically glowing. His light blue eyes shining. His golden halo of hair burnished metal. His smile the epitome of everything sweet and innocent.
Well, maybe not so innocent after yesterday, Dane imagined. But still...Dane had a hard time not admiring his friend's attractive qualities. Not just the physical, although Dane was not immune to that. Jamie was special. He was a happy Baby Roo to Dane's Mama Kanga. Which maybe was not the best comparison since he had no problem imagining what he would gladly do with Jamie if the boy had never met Noah.
Jude and he sat down on either side of their friend, Jamie instantly locking arms with them. Dane didn't fail to see that Jude pushed one of Jamie's curls behind his ear with a small smile. Dane wasn't surprised. He'd thought Jude had a crush on Jamie during their freshman year. Noah was a lucky man.
"Look at Noah," Jamie said, biting his lip then grinning from ear to ear. "He's so amazing. Isn't he amazing?"
Dane and Jude laughed. "Totally," Dane agreed with his cute friend. "He's amazing."
Jamie stuck out his tongue at Dane. "Shut up. He is. He is. I love him so much." And gazed adoringly at his boyfriend who met his eyes at that exact moment, and gave Jamie finger hearts with both hands, making Jude clap their hands in happiness of the Kpop inspired moment.
Jamie leaned against his tall brown haired friend. "I know it's disgusting. I can't help it. I'm so happy." He blinked up at Dane, his eyes shining.
