Peter and Y/N were getting ready for bed, although she kept looking around the room with curiosity.
— So, this is what a newlywed suite looks like..." Y/N laughed amused, "there's everything for everything and the bed in the shape of a heart makes me feel tender.
— You'll be surprised by the others," Peter told her, looking at her leaning against the bathroom door frame.
— I must admit, it does have a very romantic feel to it.
The walls of the room had a beige tone, the furniture was oak, with candelabra decoration and real candles for ambiance, several vases decorated with natural flowers, and the bed in the shape of a heart with white sheets with some red details.
Y/N walked over to the end of the heart and sat down to look at Peter.
— I didn't think I'd ever get to meet a newlywed suite.
She smiled, but the smile he had from watching her browse like a child faded as soon as she made that comment. Sadness washed over him, and Y/N noticed.
— Sometimes I wonder why we got married," Peter asked, looking at her.
— I wonder that too," she answered, looking away.
That answer took him by surprise, he wasn't sure how his wife really felt about him, but he knew that at that moment he could find out. He knew that with one question she could give a long story of what she thought.
— I remember when Dad told us we were getting married," Y/N commented, "It was like when you had to do an assignment but didn't know how to do it and someone from class would come along and pass it to you and you got credit for the class," she laughed as she finished making the comparison, which made Peter laugh as well.
Y/N was silent for a moment, remembering. She didn't seem to be sad, just reflecting. Peter walked over to her and sat down next to her. She continued.
— We've been seeing each other for as long as I can remember, it helped a lot that my dad and your dad have been good friends since college... I think they planned our marriage since we were born."
— Do you remember our wedding?" he asked, curious to know what she would say.
— How could I forget!", she exclaimed ''skeptical moms and dads crying with happiness because their children were now husband and wife. The family is now more united."
Y/N waited a moment to continue, having searched her memories.
— Come to think of it, it wasn't bad that we got married, I don't think either of us managed to develop that feeling of looking for a partner... apart from the fact that our living skills were practically nil...", they both laughed.
That last sentence spoke volumes to Peter, they were bad at socializing, which reduced the odds of her cheating on him, though he never believed it.
— I think it was until the honeymoon that we started living together more freely," she made quotation marks with her fingers, "we had few things in common, but we had no choice, we would have to live together. We became friends with rights...
Peter's throat closed with emotion. He had been intimated with his wife before. At some point, the thought had crossed his mind that he had touched everyone around him, but his own wife, and that thought had terrified him.
— We adjusted very well to living together, I guess it was because we divided everything instead of sharing it like a real marriage, but we made it work...I also know it helped that it was a rare occasion when we lived together, you with travel and be cooped up with my kids in the hospital, it served to keep us together even after five years.
