Chapter 2

*Beep beep* *Beep beep*
I wake up to the most irritating sound ever, and then I remember that I forgot to turn off my school alarm. Not the one that wakes me up at 7 but the early one, the 5:30am one. I toss in my bed knowing I probably might not get back to sleep. So I decided to go to the bathroom, I stumble my way in and Arlo's door is wide open, but his bed is empty. Hmm I wonder where he went. I sit down on the toilet and relieve myself. I wonder what I'm doing to today?

I managed to get back to sleep thankfully, but I was woken up by the sound of people talking and clinging plates this time. It's 7:30 must be breakfast I thought, I got dressed and walked down the hall to the kitchen.

"Morning" I say

" Look who decided to wake up, someone had a good sleep hey" John doesn't waste time craking jokes.

I chuckle awkwardly.

"I'm heading out, but Luc is in the garden, have a good day."John says grabbing a piece of toast

"Arlo, is he home?" I blurt out

" Yeah nah, he went for a surf, he'll be back later" he says walking out the door.

Okay great I guess I'm hanging out with Lucia and Cove today.

I sit down at the bar stools on the kitchen counter and grab a piece of toast, there's a bowl of fruit salad on the counter and I help myself to some as well. A few bites into my toast and Lucia walks in.

"Oh good morning love" she says

"Morning Lucia" I greet putting the remaining piece of toast down.

"Oh call me Luc, Lucia makes me feel old" she laughs and I smile.

"Well it's just the two of us today, when you finish eating wanna get ready and I'll show you around town. We'll have a little girls day out" she says, I smile and nod.

I finish my breakfast because I know if I didn't, though my mother isn't here she would have a fit. Thinking of her I remember I need to let her know I'm still alive. I was meant to text her last night but I totally forgot. I get up clean my plate and walk to my room. My room, I'm really making myself at home.

Me:
Good morning mum, how was your night? I wanted to let you know I'm okay and the Harris family is lovely. Text me back on your break. Love you.

I take a shower, get ready and wear a cute green mini summer dress. I gotta look cute for the local town folk, who knows I might meet my summer link. Gotta make a good first impression. I meet Luc in the kitchen and we walk to her car and drive into town. We have the windows open were talking and listening to music. While we drive past places Luc tells me what they are, we make it to town and we walk around and Luc shows the best shopping spots and even takes me into her favourite boutiques. I've learnt that Luc and her family are well know in town and they seem very loved. I mean Luc is lovely so it makes absolute sense. As we walk around she tells me a little about her family, turns out that Kate the one who usually comes over for the summer, is her sister. We make it to a local grocer and I can't help but take a picture of the outside of the store, it's just too pretty. We walk in and Luc greets the lady behind the counter.

"Hey Judy, how are ya?"

"Yeah not bad Luc and you"

"Yeah good, Judy this is Rue she's staying with us for the summer. I'm just showing her around" Luc introduces us.

"Nice to meet you" Judy says

"You too" I reply

We walk around the store and check a few things out, as we leave and walk back to Luc's car I make small talk.

" I noticed that Arlo really loves surfing" what a dumb thing to say.

Luc chuckles "yeah he does"

" Does he ever do anything else" I ask

" Rue you've been here less than a day and you're wondering what I've wondered that boys entire life. I swear he's attached to the hip with that surf board" she says.

I laugh remembering how yesterday he literally took me to the beach just so he could surf. We get to the car and drive home we chat some more and I can't help but think Luc and I will get along well this summer.

We get home and were greeted by Cove, turns out she'd gone to her friend's house this morning. How cute. Luc asks us to help make dinner and the three of us chat and cook. We make lasagna, when we we finish making dinner and both Arlo and John aren't home. Is Arlo really allowed to be out the whole day like this I wonder. We eat dinner and tell each other about our day.

When we're finished as Cove and I wash the dishes she says " I really like you Rue and I think you'll fit perfectly into our family for the summer."

"Naw Cove, thanks I like you guys too" I say giving her a side hug.

We finish the dishes and we go to bed. Today was relaxed but I had fun.

I walk into my room quickly get ready for bed, and slip into the covers. I'm so ready to sleep, but first I'll reply to mums text, hours later.

Mum:
Hello Rue, happy to hear you are having fun. Stay safe. My day was good. Missing you.

Me:
Good to hear your day was good. Missing you too. I'll call you on your off day tell dad I say hi.

I can barely text mum but as soon as I press send I'm knocked out asleep.

*Knock knock* *knock knock*
For a second I think I'm dreaming then I start to think I'm repeating my day over again I quickly sit up. Then I realise it's Arlo knocking on my bathroom door.

"Come in" I say

He opens the door and stands at the door way.

"Hey" he leans on the wall

"Hey" I reply

"How was your day?" He asks

" It was good, how about yours?"

"Yeah good, um sorry I was out all day and left you here" he says crossing his arms.

"Don't stress just cause I'm here doesn't mean your social life has to die and you don't need to take me everywhere with you, I had a nice day" I say sitting up more.

"Okay well that's good, well night then" he says, he tried to play it cool but I can practically hear the sigh of relief.

"Night" I say

Arlo shuts the door and goes to his room, I smile to myself as lay back down and I close my eyes trying to sleep.
