the rain pattered down against the ground, falling senselessly and gracefully, welcomed by the solid reassurance of it all.

everyone had gone home, to the warmth of the fire or perhaps a lover's embrace. they were dry and loved, while she was not so likely.

no, she was loved you see, but not in the way one might think. she was loved by the earth, by the sky, by the rain itself which clung carefully to her clothes. she loved them back about a thousand times fold.

her hair clung to her cheeks minutes ago, thoroughly drenched, but she thinks it's not that big of a problem. after all, the sky was sad today, and the right thing to do was for her to at least accompany her friend while they cried about their worries.

she wondered what it was that made the sky cry today. but she's known long enough that sometimes, perhaps, it's better to just not know.

the path beneath her changed, from normal bumpy roads to smooth concrete pavement. green peeked at her curiously as she entered their home. the dainty leaves and mild-colored flowers welcomed her, waving softly in the wind.

puddles, she jumped and laughed whenever she found one, splashing the clear reflection to ripples. water bounced from the impact and splashed high enough to brush her knees.

she walked on, passing each branch and trunk with a small hum. there was a skip to her steps, and those steps only calmed to a stop when she reached the pagoda that sheltered her from the rain.

wood made up the whole gazebo, the roof being the only exception, its green smooth tiles blending in to the surrounding garden.

she sat on one of the benches with a small huff, and upon checking no one was near, she lifted her skirt and propped her legs, uncaringly taking up space.

and then she closed her eyes, letting the soft lull of rain wash through her senses.

author's note:

first chapter wooooooooo!

this takes place in midgard btw, or earth as we know it. the timeframe is still uncertain. but i feel like this story is a story that completely detaches from the whole mcu timeline, so i most likely won't be referencing to any of the movies!
