I'm Yuki Sarado, and this is a story of the monster invasion. I don't have much time to summarise anything. At 15:30, the 13th expedition will take place.

It never occurred to me that it would come to this. I used to believe that giants entering our home was just a scare tactic used by the elderly to scare us as children. What they said was correct, as I now see. It is true that we live in a terrible world. We're just cattle for the creatures hiding in the woods.

People in this area have been persuading me to keep a thorough diary of everything that has transpired, claiming that I have a photographic memory.

So, I guess, the best way to tell the story is to start from the beginning.

-

"Wake up," said a voice next to me.

I carefully raise my head, concentrating on my surroundings. I slowly sat up with my head in my hands, half sleeping, as Nekonya sat next to me.

I complained, "I don't like this class."

Nekonya shook my hand and looked down at me. After class, Nekonya and I walked to lunch; it was a pleasant day with little wind. My pals and I gathered at our designated meeting area, chatting and joking around. It was simply another ordinary day until the ground began to shake.

Screams could be heard from afar, and everyone dashed to the front of the school, fleeing whatever was causing the enormous ground tremors. My friends snatched me up and hurled me into the crowd. We arrived to the school's entrance hall, where everyone was huddled together, attempting to unlock the barred gate. I looked around and noticed that some people were hurt, with blood smeared all over their trembling bodies. I turned around to see a girl rushing towards us crying. She was terrified, traumatised, and I wanted to get to her. I had the urge to run and bring her to what we thought was safety, but then I saw her being snatched up by a gigantic hand. Everyone was staring at an arm that had slipped back to the ground, and this was what caused everyone to fear. Screams, crying, and dread flooded the air.

I was frozen in panic, unable to move, and my mind was racing with questions: what was going on?! Five, if not ten, more hideous things blasted their way towards the people all around me. They were tall, terrifying, and ruthless murderers. Students were being dragged from the ground all around me, blood streaming down like rain. Everything around me seemed to be in slow motion, everything was quiet, all I could focus on was Sadako's ripped body, and I couldn't seem to move, my body was frozen. Whatever we do, we are all going to die. I was shoved over and then passed out, most likely due to a head injury. Only a few people survived that day, I discovered. I recall waking up on a carriage or something, in a gloomy, musty environment that smelled like rotting animals.

"what am- "I stopped,

I was numb and couldn't feel my body. Misakana was on the other side of me, unconscious, as I carefully rotated my head to face Nekonya. I sat there trying hard not to cry; I had lost several friends that day, and I knew there would always be a hole inside of me that would never heal. People all around me are covered in blood, some of whom are injured and others who are not. People didn't say anything, didn't glance up, and didn't even make a fuss about their injuries. All of them appeared to be dead...depressed and damaged.

I recall the carriage coming to a halt, the great wooden door at the back of the carriage opening, two men walked in and carried the unconscious, and some ladies assisted with the wounded and brought them to hospital beds. The remainder of us were rushed out into a massive brick building just off the city's west side, which was surrounded by woodland on a mountain. We appeared to be cut off from the rest of civilisation.

"welcome to military school,'' the man said in a loud voice.

Slowly, everyone looked up. We were all in a single file line, with a tall man in front of us who was intimidating and reeked horribly.

"I'm curious as to why you're here, huh?" There was no response. Everyone was staring at the ceiling with blank expressions on their faces. Their skin was pale, and their eyes were parched. They appeared to be from The Walking Dead. Misakana was two persons behind me, her skin was pale, and she was bleeding profusely. How long had we been there for, I wondered? How long had we been in that crowd, surrounded by those monstrous beasts? I shrugged it off, figuring that as long as we're all alive, that's all that matters.

The man began speaking again, this time with a stronger voice and a larger smile.

"Well, you're here to train to help us clear off this massive infestation," he stated. "The Military is too busy fighting War right now, so the government decided to invite you youngens in."

I understand that the military has been preoccupied with the major conflict, but I couldn't help but wonder why we, these young teens, are being forced down this...death route. I am certain that many individuals, including my parents, remain in the city and adjacent towns... My parents, my mind froze... I pray they're safe.

"You won't be the only ones; the bulk of schools in the area have been destroyed, so a few more high school kids will arrive later today; as you know, people are being evacuated from the surrounding towns and the city, and they will be transferred to secure locations nearby."

We were later assigned cottages in which 2-4 people shared a room. Fortunately, I was placed with Nekonya and Misakana. We were provided clothing and other necessities. More grownups stepped out into the foyer and escorted us to our rooms in groups. While we were travelling, Nekonya and Misakana were distant, not speaking, and they were both covered in blood, as was I, though it wasn't my blood. It wasn't my fault; it was someone else's; Misakana was hurt, but only slightly; she had a few cuts and grazes. Nekonya was coated in someone else's blood, just like me.

We walked into our room and opened the door. I walked over to the window and noticed that the structure was tall and encircled by massive cobblestone walls that were mossy and didn't appear to be very stable, and that they were there to keep the humanoid beings out. It was preferable than nothing.

Misakana and Nekonya were not speaking to one other or to me. We sat in silence on a bed. They were blank and breathing lightly as they looked down at the floor. I knew our lives would never be the same again.
