DAY 6
COLVILLE NATIONAL FOREST, WASHINGTONYou were unable to see past the white wall of snow in front of you. It fell down in heavy droves, chilling you to the bone within an instant. One arm clutched your torso in an attempt to retain some heat. When you reached out in front of you, you couldn't see your hand in front of your own face. The wind bit at your skin, slipping into your sleeves and any cracks it could find to gnaw at your limbs. There was no way you'd survive in weather like this without some sort of shelter. You'd lived your whole life in Minnesota to know that for a fact. You squinted in an attempt to gain a sense of your surroundings, but it was difficult to assess anything beyond the whirling flakes blocking your vision.
So you dragged your legs through deeper snow than you'd experienced in a long while, not since you were a child, maybe. It reached above your knees, making your lower extremities feel worn out and exhausted only after a few moments. It didn't take long for you to reach an impenetrable wall of tall, thick trees. They were close enough together that you were barely able to fit any further than your fingers through the gap in between their trunks. The cold chill continued to gnaw at you. If you didn't find shelter, you would die out here.
You guessed it had to be somewhere in the single digit negatives. You spent all your life in Minnesota, you knew when it was below freezing. When you tried to look through the cracks in the trees, you couldn't see anything but darkness. With a frown, you turned one way and began following the formidable wall the forest had created. Maybe you'd get lucky and find a break in the trees. You weren't sure how to feel when you found it. It felt like forever until you got to it, but eventually you were able to step out of the thick snow into what you discovered to be a hidden cove.
It was a bit warmer inside, though that was most likely due to the fact that there was no wind chill inside the cove. The layer of snow covering the ground wasn't as deep as it was outside, and you were more than thankful for it. Above you, enormous pine branches were layered up in a way to create a makeshift roof. They looked heavy and ready to give way at any second, but dense enough to only let small clumps through at a time compared to an avalanche that would surely smother you. There wasn't much to this small sanctuary you had luckily stumbled upon in the middle of a blizzard. There was a frozen stream that cut through diagonally, beginning in the northeastern corner and skewing towards the west before disappearing back into the trees.
Your heart dropped when your eyes focused on a body standing with their back towards you, staring down into the frozen stream. It was you. The doppelgänger of you was wearing a tan fur coat that reached her knees, green gloves, black pants, and tan winter boots. A green beanie protected her ears from the cold. You looked down to your hands to see that you were wearing the exact same thing. You couldn't hear her speak if she said anything over the blizzard howling outside. Your heartbeat was pounding in your throat when she looked up at something moving in the shadows across the stream from her.
You immediately found something to hide behind, a thick, gnarled evergreen tree, and peered around it to watch closely. You were unsure if you were shaking due to the cold or the anxiety running through your veins. From the moving shadows appeared a green wolf, and you knew it was Yonji. That was exactly what you had just seen fighting off Niji just a bit ago, wasn't it? You could hear your own breathing echoing in your ears when he approached your copy and stood by her side. He scanned the area around them, and his azure eyes darted to the tree that you were hiding behind.
