I couldn't take the suspense from Rosin as we stood looking at each other. My anger for what may have caused Rem pain was boiling inside, and yet, all I could do was think of how to get out of this.
Rosin's crooked smirk was changed into one of pure euphoria, as he then spoke "Oh! Rosa! I didn't know how much you cared about that useless waste of space!"
I retorted "USELESS WASTE OF SPACE? THEN WHAT DOES THAT MAKE YOU? BETTER YET, WHAT DOES THAT MAKE ALL OF US? YOU WOULD BE ONE, ROSTEN HERE WOULD BE ONE, RIANNA AND ROY WOULD ALSO BE WASTES OF SPACE! BETTER YET! I WOULD BE ONE AS WELL! WE ARE ALL CONNECTED TO DJANE, AND YET, YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO ONLY CALL ONE OF US A WASTE OF SPACE AND USELESS!?"
Rosin had the rifle aimed right at my own head.
"I forgot how feisty you were, Rosa. It is truly a miracle that we came from the same person. Oh well." His face changed to an expression that was flat, and yet it still had a glint of that crooked smirk. "Oh right! I still haven't explained what happens to her when she doesn't obey any orders! Do you know why she had stopped rebuilding those buildings outside our fortress?"
My eyes were wide, as I had noticed years ago that she had stopped rebuilding all of it.
"When I asked, she dodged the question, and instead told me to not worry about it. I can only NOW assume you are the reason?"
"Heheheh!" This time, Rosin and Rosten laughed in sync, in the same, annoying, tone. Immediately folllowing that laugh, Rosin answered "Why, of course! The others could've also done it, but they never did! Rem was too busy to just stop in the middle, so as some point, I just decided to start destroying anything she creates when she doesn't follow any order immediately! I ordered her to do something, and then, when she didn't do it, continuing to build the buildings here, and instead continued, I threatened to destroy her own.. what did she call it.. art. I had to threaten her with destroying her art! When she didn't do it and continued like it was nothing? I then burnt her stuff, which made something click for her to realize that I meant what I meant! And so, ever since that happened, she has not touched anything that she could create with, and only stays nearby."
I lowered my head, my own hair falling to the sides.
"You do notice that... We... Us... The eight of us... ALL have different personality traits? You seem to have gotten the worst."
"Heh. And the best too~" The smirk on his face told me everything, and he knew what he had done, without any hint of sadness at his own actions.
'This is what Rem has had to deal with? I regret leaving her here now. But to repent for that, I must take care of the tormentor that she has dealt with for way too long.'
Glaring up at Rosin, I came up with a plan.
'Maybe one of those prototypes may be able to help with this? Rosin seemed adamant about using it, so perhaps I can use it against him? But how should I be getting to the lab to even START the search?'
"You're a bit too quiet. You must be scheming? How about I put an end to this farce? I can join Grim once this is done, hopefully all the equipment mixed into his body is not damaged, but if so, we can simply replace it. I'm sorry to end this on such a note, but we best be going. Roy and Rianna must be nearly done taking care of Rem and.. another experiment, and Grim should be near complete with taking out Buggy if he had no issues. Goodbye!"
And the trigger was pulled.
"Soul Comma-" was all I could speak, until the bullet was shot, and I barely turned away, leaving a hole through my throat, not allowing me to speak anymore.
But Rosin took pride in this.
"Oh! Oh, that is just beautiful! I could call it art too! You, in your desperate attempt to dodge, try to speak that command to take care of me, and yet, poetically, you can no longer speak! All because you cannot see what WE are doing, is the correct thing to do! Weapons? We have plenty of those, ships? We can design them and build them like nothing! Even augmentations are nothing in front of us! And yet, you believed that we should go out like nothing was going to happen?"
I was grasping at my throat, trying to keep the wound from opening and keeping myself from dying. I dropped my sword to use both hands, and dropped to my knees. Rosin leaned down to my level, leaning on his rifle, holding on to it while pretty close to me and continued.
It may seem illogical to you, but we were indeed doing what Djane wanted us to! It may be a couple hundred years late, but such inconveniences will come up eventually. And yet, in the effort to do what Djane wanted, you call it 'THE WRONG WAY', and don't get me started on that! 'The wrong way'? There is never a wrong way to do something, as long as you get to it! You may consider the time we took as 'unnecisarry', but we have taken what WE consider to be the correct path! Do not take this lightly, but EVERYTHING WAS FOR DJANE'S DREAM! WE HAVE DONE THIS ALL TO ACCOMPLISH IT! AND YOU WILL NOT RUIN IT FOR US!"
I had some spit in my face from the end, but my glare had make him decide against taking any more action.
But I was ready for this.
With one hand, I immediately grabbed the rifle and pulled it as quickly as I could, hitting Rosin with it and throwing him a couple feet away, which at the same time as I caused that, Rosten threw more rocks at me, this time, hitting me everywhere, and putting holes through my body.
The pain was unbearable, and I wanted to let out a scream, or a sound, and failed to do so, since my vocal chords had been destroyed. I had then, at that moment, realized a plan. In a single moment, when Rosten had to move to gather more rocks, as I could only think he ran out of them for a few moments, I took that few seconds to enact my plan and take care of these two.
The plan started off with grabbing a bullet that was sitting on the stock, with three bullets left after reloading. Those bullets were being held on the stock in a small pack, and then, with one hand, I was forced to reload quickly before bleeding out and before Rosten could even do anything else against me. Opening the chamber of Rosin's rifle, the ching sound that came from the last bullet casing rang out as I, using a single hand, reloaded the rifle. I had a slight issue with the bullet, as I had never seen an arrow-like bullet, so I put it in, pointed edge facing towards the end of the barrel of the rifle itself. I didn't know how the weapon worked, so I was stuck guessing that Rosin had no need for extra gunpowder, and went with what I had.
I locked the chamber in place, only then to use one hand again, holding the rifle, to pick it up, and then aim it towards Rosten, who was the biggest threat now. With the now aimed rifle, I was going to pull the trigger, until Rosin slammed into me, throwing us to the ground. We rolled around, and he was holding me in place so I could no longer attack Rosten, and he yelled out "Rosten! Hurry up with that, and take Rosa out NOW!"
Hearing this, I continued to roll, still having a grip on his rifle, so I immediately went to try and get him off me after we stopped rolling, but it proved extremely difficult to do so with one arm. And so I risked my own life just by taking my other hand covering my wounded neck, both now stained with blood, to try and throw Rosin away from me to take care of it once and for all.
That was the easy part, saying I wanted to get him off me. Actually holding the rifle with a hand that slips was hard, but pushing with as much as I could so I could continue my plan, Rosin was thrown away from me again. I then put a hand back over the holes on my neck, and continued on with my plan. What was my plan? To take down the rest of us, and lock Rosin away behind many layers of the mind as possible, just to make sure that he could not do anything to hurt, or manipulate, anyone else again.
