"Leon worked at a prison where he was ID-ed as Employee 137."

"Employee 137's job was simple. He sat at at his desk in room 137, and read words in a book to re-write in another book."

"Whatever word, phrase, or sentence showed up in the first book, he would write it down with the same case, font, and punctuation -- if any specifics were given."

"This is what Employee 137 did every day of every month of every year."

"And although others might consider it soul-crushingly boring, Leon relished every moment he put his pen to paper, as though he were made exactly for this job."

"And Leon was happy."

"He had been at his desk for hours, when he realized not one single book was delivered to him to re-write."

"No one showed up to give him instructions, call a prisonbreak, or even say 'hi'."

"Never in all his years at the prison had this happened, this complete isolation."

"Something was very clearly wrong."

"Shocked, frozen solid, Leon found himself unable to move for the longest time."
