The busy marketplace was filled with crowds of people, the buzz of conversation filled the air.
"Hey Kurapika, which fruit do you think I should get?"
Gon turned, holding up two fruits eagerly in front of Kurapika. A fresh mango and peach he had taken from a stand displaying an assortment of fruits.
"I can't choose.." Gon said.
"?"
Kurapika wasn't paying attention to Gon when he first asked the question about the fruit, instead looking at something else he found interesting— a collection of vintage books. Rare offers, too..
But Gon caught his attention, so he turned around to look at him.. then at the fruits. He put his hand up to his chin, inspecting the specimens closely.
"Hm.. maybe the mango?" He replied.
"Ok! Thanks."
Gon put the peach back in the basket on the stand and checked his pockets for some Jenny, only to realize he had none left after spending it on a gift for Killua earlier.
"Oh... I don't have any money left.", Gon said.
Meanwhile Chrollo is peering at the goods in another stand while in complete silence a ways away from where Kurapika and Gon are, he's noticed them but has decided to keep his distance this time.
"That's fine, I can pay for it."
Kurapika smiled. He probably couldn't afford the book he wanted to get after getting the mango for Gon, but he didn't really mind. He handed over the Jenny to the seller and then handed the mango to Gon, before turning to look and see what else he could buy.
Though, he could've sworn he saw a familiar face out of the corner of his eye.. he did a double take, squinting off towards the distance. Was that... Chrollo?! What was he doing here?!
Kurapika suddenly found himself clenching the book he was holding intensely.. maybe too intensely. The leather book cover was soon dented by the imprints of his fingers.
"...."
"Thank you!" Gon smiled, but didn't notice Kurapika tensing, as he was distracted.Gon decided to save the Mango for later, because he wasn't as hungry at the moment.
"Hm..." Chrollo was thinking of what to steal this time from the market...something small or something big. Surprisingly, he had no intention to go after Kurapika or Gon, he just was there, looking and looking...
Chrollo moves to another table that's a bit further from where they are standing, peering at the product somewhat closely this time around.
Kurapika knew it would be wrong to just.. leave Gon there where he was standing. But he also didn't want to just leave Chrollo standing there.
There were also lots of people around. A fight wouldn't exactly be the best thing to do with this crowd. He shuffled his way closer to Chrollo inconspicuously, debating whether or not he wanted to confront him.
The person watching the product at the table Chrollo is at starts to make conversation with him. He seems to act startled at this, but it is only a facade. Chrollo apologizes to the person watching the product that he forgot to say hi when he arrived at the table. Explains that nothing catches his eye in a nice manner and moves to a table further away from where Kurapika went to see about him.
Gon finally noticed the absence of Kurapika by his side, panicking and thinking he was lost until he saw a glimpse of the recognizable blonde hair moving slowly amongst the crowd. He began to make his way through the large crowd of people, walking towards Kurapika. He was a little confused as to why he suddenly left, but he went to catch up with him, anyways.
Kurapika had lost Chrollo in the crowd by the time he reached the stand that he was at. He felt disappointed in himself for growing angry enough that he would leave Gon behind.. he sighed, turning around before bumping into Gon on accident.
"Ah— sorry, Gon."
Kurapika tried to regain his composure. His eyes luckily hadn't turned scarlet due to the contacts he had in.
"It's okay Kurapika! Why are you over here? Is there something that caught your eye?"
Gon asked, looking around at the stands.
Chrollo saw something that caught his eye at one of the stands. And that stand was being left alone at the moment too. He brushed past most of the people in the crowd to head over to that stand and peer at the product that caught his eye. He looked around to see if anybody was watching him while he was looking at the product he spotted
Kurapika spotted Chrollo again. He wasn't going to leave Gon behind this time either, though... without warning, he grabbed Gon by the hand and gently dragged him along through the crowd.
"Yes, something did catch my eye.. but it's moved over here now.."
Kurapika mumbled, narrowing his eyes as he pursued Chrollo.
Chrollo would snag the product he saw and sneak quickly back into the crowd about as soon as right after he grabbed it. He didn't seem to notice Kurapika eyeing him, so he just proceeded to keep walking through the crowd, keeping a straight face as though he wasn't guilty of snagging the product from the stand when the seller wasn't there.
"!?"
Gon was confused but went along with Kurapika, he now knew something was up.
Yet again Kurapika was left frustrated. He could've sworn this was where Chrollo was, he just saw him standing here..! He muttered something under his breath and asked the shopkeeper where Chrollo had disappeared off to, to which he got an unsure reply. Kurapika continued to pull Gon along through the crowd.
Chrollo is now heading into the less crowded end of the marketplace...should he keep walking or should he bolt, he wondered...he felt as though somebody was following but he assured himself it was fine.
Kurapika continued following after where he thought Chrollo went, eventually catching sight of him again. He picked up the pace, running after him and.. sort of forgetting he was holding onto Gon...
To be continued. . .
