Four Years Later

Four years later, I'm sitting on the couch in the living room at my house, reading a book. I was reading "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe".

As I turned the page, I flipped my shaggy black hair out of my face. I had my hair covering my emerald green eyes; I found that it could help me keep the world out if I did it.

I heard the door open, and I knew that it was my older brother, James. James had been at a movie with our cousins, and his best friends, Fred and Louis.

"Oh look! The snakey is here!" James noticed.

I stayed silent; he made fun of me all the time, and normally I didn't let his words get to me. Lately, however, I have found myself getting worked up at them. They've really gotten to me lately. I don't know if my brother was aware of it or not, but they have made me feeling like everybody hated me.

"You hear me snakey? I'm home!" James stated.

"I know, I heard you disturb the peace as you walked through the door."

I heard him snort, "Did I want you to reply? God! Albus just go away! Go anywhere but here!"

That's what I meant. Funnily, he only does it when only he and I are here, and nobody else. It makes me wonder if people send him to do it...

I felt tears prick my eyes real quick. I wanted to know if everybody thought that.

I decided to get up and go into my room. Mum and dad were upstairs, and Lily was over at our cousin Hugo's house.

I grabbed my book and plopped down on my bed. I put in my headphones and hit the play button for my music.

"What a shame we all became such fragile, broken things," I sung quietly to myself from the song Let the Flames Begin.

Ah, Paramore. How I love thee.

Uma Thurman by Fall Out Boy had just started to play when I heard a knock on my bedroom door.

"Come in," I said.

My mother walked in; I hit pause on the song and ripped out my earbuds.

"Hey, Al, your father and I are going to talk to you. HARRY! GET IN HERE!"

Dad walked in, a treacle tart in his hand. He shoved it in his mouth real quick.

"Harry, those are for after dinner."

"Sorry love," my dad said after he swallowed.

I sat up as my parents sat down at the edge of my bed. Dad out his arm around Mum, and then said, "Al, how are you?"

"I'm fine," I lied.

On the inside I'm screaming:

AM I OKAY? NO! I'M NOT FUCKING OKAY! JAMES DOESN'T HURT ME VERBALLY EVERYDAY, OH NOT AT ALL!

YEAH, I AM NOT FUCKING OKAY!

I AM TIRED OF EVERYTHING! OF THIS LIFE! CAN MY LIFE JUST END ALREADY!?

"No, you're not fine Al," Dad stated.

I realized that he had been using Occlumency too look into my mind and to read my thoughts.

I breathed heavily and saw my father whisper what I had been thinking to my mother. Mum covered her mouth in utter bewilderment.

"Oh, Al..."

"Save your pity. I don't need it."

For some reason, I then erupted into tears and let them tumble down my cheeks.

I lent my head into her chest, making hiccup sounds. Her hands stroked my hair and whispered to me, "Al, is anything else going on?"

I didn't know whether to nod to tell the truth or to shake my head... Tell them that nothing was wrong... Lie to them... But I didn't want to tell my parents what I have been doing lately... I couldn't... It would destroy them...

"Nothing. I'm just tired of James being an utter dick and making me feel useless."

My parents didn't look convinced, but they accepted it for now.

There was hope in me the next morning, because I remembered that one of my very best friends was coming over for the day.

Scorpius Malfoy was in the same house as me- Slytherin. His father was Draco Malfoy; his dad had a bad history with my father, mother, Aunt Hermione, Uncle Ron and Aunt Madison*. It's cleared up a bit, they get along now.

Anyway, Scorpius came over today and we were in the basement playing Xbox. Currently, we were playing Minecraft.

"So what's going on with you and Nessa, mate?" Scorpius asked me.

Heat rose to my cheeks. "Nothing."

"You're lying! It's so obvious that you fancy her- she fancies you too you know," Scorpius smirked.

"Okay, maybe their is something between us..."

"I knew it! Man, you two are perfect together!"

"Oh shut up. You're with Rose."

"I know I am. I still can't believe her father actually approves of me."

I smiled, "Same. I thought for sure he'd pulverize you. Put red rose flowers on your tombstone."

In response, he hit me with his iron sword on Minecraft.

"You haven't met Nessa's dad, have you?"

"Sure I have," I snorted. "When I was five."

Scorpius chuckled, "Al, that doesn't count man."

I rolled my emerald eyes.

"AL! SCORPIUS! NESSA IS HERE!" I heard my youngest sister, Lily (who was in Gryffindor, just like James) scream.

Suddenly, Vanessa Wood came and hugged me tight. She gave Scorpius a quick hug before sitting down right next to me.

Vanessa Wood went by Nessa, and she was the daughter of Oliver Wood and Katie Bell.

Nessa had beautiful brown waves that reached her shoulder blade and amazing icy blue eyes that I got lost in.

She lent in and kissed me; I kissed her back.

"I knew you two were together," Scorpius smugly stated.

"Shut up Malfoy," Nessa and I said at the same time.

Nessa, Scorpius and I were all in Slytherin.

I remember when Nessa's parents discovered that she was in Slytherin when we all went home for Christmas. It involved Oliver Wood saying in his Irish accent:

"You're in Slytherin? Bloody hell. I owe your Uncle Lazarus five galleons now!"

It was quite a sight, and it made me laugh.

Ah, even four years later my friends stuck with me.
