The sun is glaring, we had been out by the pool all day, the girls were here five seconds ago screaming at each other about some drama to do with an iPad. The silence is suddenly very ominous, as I sit up straight from the sun lounger and look around. The yard is empty of noise, no girls...

"Harper" I nudge.

She turns to look at me from the lounger beside me, pulling her shades down and looking to me over the top.

"Do you hear that" I ask.

She frowns, her hazel eyes looking to me a little confused "no I don't hear anything" she returns and then her eyes widen and it's clicked as she jumps up in her bikini.

I take off after her toward the house. Josie stands at the back door, peeping out, she is six years old, her blonde hair down to her shoulders. Her hazel eyes widen as she sees us approach, "they put you on lookout again did they" I ask ruffling her hair.

"No mommy they didn't" she lies for them.

Josie was always placed on look out when both Olympia and Wren were up to no good. Josie was too sweet to ever say no, nor join in on the actual criminal activity taking place, something that would follow them into the teen years, dragging sweet Josie into their wild plans.

"Wren..." Harper calls out, and there is a thump and the sounds of quickened footsteps upstairs.

"Olympia" I call, joining her, as we head up the staircase.

"You better not be in our room" Harper calls out

We push open the door, it's like a crime scene, there is stuff everywhere but namely a screwdriver, a fork and a knife on the bed.

"What the hell is this" I ask, bending down and picking the items up off of the bed.

"Olympia Maria ... Wren Helena... get your butts in here now" I call out frustratedly.

The closet slides open and reveals the two of them sat in there, looking a little sheepish.

Olympia can't help her cocky little grin, because she finds this most amusing. Wren looks to her, and as usual is set off laughing at her face.

"This isn't funny" Harper chastises loudly, and she looks to me "tell them Teddy" she asks, looking for back up.

I'm too busy looking sideways to the bedside drawer that has a screwdriver hanging out of it.

I nudge Harper and she looks to me confused "what" she asks.

I drag her by the arm and point to the drawer, and she holds her hand over her mouth and tries not to laugh.

I lean into her, and whisper "Thank god the contents of that drawer is also in a locked safe, because honestly Harper... scarred ... scarred for life they would be" I say dramatically, as she doubles over laughing.

Olympia and Wren appear from the closet as I eye them up "you are eleven and eight ... you should know better than trying to jam open a drawer with a screwdriver, it leaves marks. It's completely obvious. You would have been better off just searching for the key, because mama is an easy target when it comes to hiding things... she's got no imagination"

Harper pokes me in the rib "that wasn't the telling off I was going for" she says accusingly "teaching them how to better break into things" she accuses, shaking her head.

"Mommy, we tried to find the key, but we got bored" Olympia admits.

Wren nods in agreement "We only had a small window of time Mom. It was this, or never know the contents of the drawer, and we want to know what lives in there"
