"Does your Mama and Mom know you're gay" Ava asked.
I turn and look at her, and smile "well duh" I return.
She nudges me "how am I meant to know. I didn't even know you were, and I'm meant to be one of your best friends"
"I told them the year before last, when I was thirteen" I reveal. I hold my knees against my chest a little tighter and try not to touch Ava's legs that are tucked up in the same position beside me. "And you didn't know, because you live under a rather religious rock" I tease, thinking of her parents and their house full of Jesus memorabilia.
We are sat on the bleachers, watching Cameron train for football, he does it three sessions a week after school. I always wait for him, today Ava has joined me, something she has been doing a lot more frequently.
"Okay, I'm here, what did I miss" comes the raspy voice of my annoying little sister. I roll my eyes, and glance sideways to her climbing up the bleachers beside us.
"O, it's training... there isn't anything to miss, that's the whole point..." I groan "why didn't you just ...go home"
She sits down beside me, and stretches her long legs out in front of her, placing her backpack behind herself so that she can lean back in comfort.
"Settling in for the long haul" I ask.
She gives me that look "Wren... shut up" she retorts and she leans in and whispers "your just mad I'm here, when you want Ava all to yourself, be nice to me, or I will tell her how much you are dying to kiss her" she threatens with a grin as she leans away.
"Don't" I mouth.
"So Ava ... do you like any of the boys" Olympia asks, raising her eyebrows at me in a defiant look.
I roll my eyes as Ava looks across me to O.
"Those boys" she asks, pointing down to the football squad.
Olympia nods, before adding "I kind of like Cole"
I snap my attention back to her "you do"
Olympia smiles "I do"
"O. You are not even thirteen" I say surprised. "Mom would not be happy"
"Mom and Mama don't need to know Wren ... and anyway if she knew who you liked, your sleepovers would end pretty pronto"
"Fine" I say annoyed "I won't tell her"
"Fine ... neither will I" Olympia retorts.
"You two never stop arguing" Ava interjects.
Olympia and I share a look "oh that wasn't us arguing" I say.
Olympia agrees "that was just conversation, us arguing involves a lot more damage, and a-lot more screaming"
"So..." Olympia asks again "which one do you like"
Ava looks down to the boys all running on the field below and assesses them slowly. I watch her, my eyes gravitating from her beautiful hazel eyes to her full lips that are pursed together in thought. "I like Dominic" she finally reveals.
