The children trickled into the daycare slowly, only one child entering every three minutes or so. By the end of the first hour, twenty children had entered the daycare, and none had left. Sun was impressively able to handle the children, giving attention to those who directly demanded it and carefully watching the other children in his peripheral vision.
You only knew he was watching the other children because any time a child was doing something dangerous or against the rules, he would excuse himself from the children in front of him and scold the rulebreaker sternly but gently.
None of the children immediately came up to talk to you, but you saw them staring from afar, watching you curiously. You figured this was because you were new, and they didn't know you. This made them cautious around you. You didn't take it as an insult and just spent your time tidying up around the daycare; the children had a knack for abandoning messy play areas when something else had caught their eye.
After a few hours, the children warmed up to your presence, and a few came to talk to you. They would ask you all sorts of things about yourself: your name, how old you were, what you were doing there, etc. It didn't bother you in the slightest, and you would readily answer any of the children's questions.
This continued until about noon when Sun skipped over to you. He threw his hands into the air enthusiastically as he shouted, "Y/N!! It's snack time for the kiddos! Would you mind gathering some juice boxes and snacks from the closet I showed you earlier?"
You gave a quick nod, "Of course, Sun. Should I get any specific snacks or whatever I can grab?"
"Just grab what you can. There should be a cart in the closet near the snacks. Most kiddos like cheese crackers or chocolate chip cookies, so get some of those and anything else you think they'd like!"
With a noise of acknowledgment, you turned towards the closet to gather snacks for the children. You scanned your ID badge on the reader next to the door to unlock it, then made your way inside. It was easy enough to find the cart for snacks. It had three baskets made from a soft plastic and four legs attached to wheels. Next to the cart was a shelf full of non-perishable snacks and a fridge full of juice boxes, FizzyFaz, water bottles, and fruit.
You filled the top basket in the cart with Goldfish, CheezIT's, Chips Ahoy!, and Oreos. The next basket was filled with apples, oranges, and bananas. You lined up juice boxes, FizzyFaz, and water bottles in the bottom.
Deciding you'd picked out plenty of snacks, you exited the closet and rolled the cart into the daycare. Sun noticed you were through and clapped his hands cheerfully before turning to the children.
"Little Sunsprites!" he called, gathering the attention of all the children, "It's snack time! Please make two lines in front of Miss Y/N!!"
The children squealed in delight as the rushed towards you, only forming two lines because Sun had guided them there. You and sun passed snacks out together until all the children were sitting around the daycare, munching happily.
As the children ate, Sun came up to you, giggling, "You are doing a great job Y/N!! The kids seemed really nervous around you at first, but they warmed up really quickly! It makes me so happy!! I think you should get the honor of passing out the Moondrop candies since you're doing so well!"
You chuckled nervously, "I really don't think I'm doing as well as you say I am, but I'd be happy to pass out the candies. I heard they have a bit of melatonin in them to help the children sleep. Does that mean it's close to nap time?"
Sun paused for a second, nodding sheepishly as his cheeks flushed pink. You had no idea how they did that and you'd have to ask later, but for now, the conversation continued. "Yea. We have naptime after snacks so the children can sleep with full bellies. It's also so the candies don't make them sick. If they ate them without eating something first, the melatonin in the candies might make them too tired or a bit nauseous. We have two snacks and two naps through the day. The first around noon and the second around six o'clock."
"Alright, so I just hand out the candies? Is there anything else we need to do?" you questioned, wanting to know so you wouldn't be surprised by anything.
Sun nodded and continued, "We give the kids the candy then guide them to Naptime Nook. There's blankets and pillows there. The floor in there is essentially a large mattress split down the middle by a walkway. There's stuffed animals and all sorts of comforting items. Once the children all have their own blanket, they find somewhere comfy and we turn off the lights. That's when Moon takes over. He watches over the children to make sure they're all ok while they sleep."
"Well, that doesn't sound too bad. Do you want me to start giving blankets and candies to the children who've had time to finish their snacks?"
"That sounds like a great idea!! I'll put the leftover snacks away while you do that!" Sun exclaimed as he grabbed the snack cart and began to push it towards the closet. You followed behind him to snatch the Moondrop Candies to hand out to the children.
One by one, the children were given a Moondrop Candy and led to Naptime Nook to pick out a blanket, a pillow, and a stuffed animal. It didn't take long for all of the children to finish their snacks and lay down with the others.
You quickly checked over the daycare to make sure all the children were tucked in and you made your way to the light switch. You turned towards Sun, asking if you could turn the lights off now, and he gave a quick thumbs up.
The lights were quickly cut off and a bit of metallic movement could be heard in the dark. You couldn't see very well in the dim daycare, but you could hear a low chuckle from where Sun was previously standing.
In the low light you could make out Moon's figure. The clothing on the animatronic had shifted form yellow and red stripes to blue with yellow stars, the stars glowing lightly in the dark. It was hard to see but you could tell the colors of the animatronics' main body was different as well. It was white and blue as far as you could tell. The face of the animatronic was glowing, but only half of it, making it look like a cartoon moon. He was now wearing a nightcap instead of Sun's normal triangle rays and the cap had glowing stars to match the pants. His eyes were dimly glowing a reddish-pink color.
He looked towards you and his expression was unreadable. He stared, if only for a moment, before turning away to watch over the kids.
