PROLOGUE

     He crept through the cottage on silent feet, watching potions swirl in their flasks, slowly gaining colour and glow. Lanterns hung from the ceiling, substituting for the unlit fireplace. He didn't need some lost traveler being attracted to the smoke while he was gone.
     He slipped into his heeled boots and pulled on a black cloak over his dark button up turtleneck. Picking the potions off the brewing stand, his golden eyes seemed to glow in the dim lighting.
     The heavy snow engulfed him as he stepped out into the swelling storm. Sighing, he pulled his hood over his head, cloaking the top half of his face in shadow. The potions on his belt thudded duly together, cushioned by leather to keep them from clanking as he set off on his journey.
    Tonight was going to be a night hundreds would remember. Tonight would be a night of blood.
