I sit outside the den, keeping watch as Crystal and River dig deeper. As moments pass, I turn my head sharply as I hear Rea approach the den. She calls down to our parents, but I do not hear a response. I look at Rea for reassure that they did indeed call back. Rea calls down again but stops midway as the ground trembles beneath our paws. We hear our parents running up the den, just as the ground begins to sink into the den. I come closer to the den opening, trying to see them. "Mother! Father! Hurry the den is collapsing!" I say urgently. I hear their footsteps growing louder, and louder. I signal to Rea to back up. I catch a glimpse of ginger fur followed by brown fur.
