You may think that the night was peaceful, there were crickets chirping heard, the moon was full and shining, and there was a big purple and white cat asleep under a tree with his little buddy, a frog. Everyone loved nights like these, even a particular human loved it with her entire heart.
It's been years since the echidnas disappeared, leaving Y/N and Knuckles the only survivors. Knuckles was the last echidna to survive ever since his father never returned to the village. Since his father was the chief, Knuckles was the heir. Since his father was no more, it made him the new chief of the village but the sad reality was that there were no more echidnas left, only him with his best friend, a human named Y/N.
Knuckles and Y/N both promised each other to support and protect each other all the time, especially when needed.
Flashback~
Little Knuckles sat on his knees, holding his father's spear close to him. He couldn't believe what had happened... His father just left and never returned. What had happened to him? Where was he? Was he still alive?
There was sadly no answer at all... He just didn't know.
"Knuckles?" Y/N's little voice spoke up.
Knuckles, however, didn't face Y/N to look at her. He was just still upset as Y/N was since their families never returned. I mean, Mrs.Meldinda was Y/N's only mother figure with no father while Knuckles was another way around. He did have a dad but not a mother. Did she die giving birth to Knuckles?
Little Y/N sighed and sat down next to him. She was quiet at first and glanced at Knuckles to check on him. Her heart broke. Little Knuckles was not facing her, looking down as his chin was on his knees since they were pressed against his furred chest. He looked so upset that he was about to cry. Both kids went on a search as they stuck together while carrying their own food and little weapons they made for themselves. They found the chief's spear and Mrs. Melinda's bow. It looked destroyed but easy to fix it up as new.
"Knuckles, please trust me. I'm just as upset as you are. You lost your daddy while I lost mommy. I miss the tribe already," her voice cracked with sadness as some tears began to roll down.
Knuckles didn't like Y/N crying. That way, her beautiful and cute face was being ruined but poor little echidna was shy and didn't understand his feelings since he was alone. After finally a while, he spoke. "Hey, Y/N?"
She looked at him and sniffed. "Yeah?"
Knuckles hesitated before speaking. "Promise me to never leave me? We need to protect and support each other whenever we need. I couldn't bear to lose you too." He stuck his little gloved white hand out to him.
Y/N smiled warmly. "Promise." She grabbed his hand.
Ending~
The cat woke up after an alarm went off, causing him to startle awake. What was going on? The lights suddenly turned on as some robots began to patrol the area with their cameras as a certain fast blue blur was speeding up fast towards the base that belonged to Eggman. The blue blur, who was Sonic the Hedgehog, managed to dodge every rocket attack quite easily since he was the speed of sound. After all, gotta go fast!
While Sonic managed to break inside the base with no harm and problem, a certain Tornado plain came out through the spokes as one of the engines was on fire due to being hit.
"Tails, the plane's on fire! What are we gonna do?" a pink hedgehog, Amy Rose, asked in a panic tone.
Tails was the cutest fox you'll ever meet. He was a yellow and white fox with two tails who he used as a helicopter to get around or with the plane he built. He was only 8 years old and already a genius I tell you. He turned towards Amy. "We're gonna save Sonic." After they saved Sonic, the plane landed but it had trouble stopping because a big rock stood in the way.
Amy gasped. "We're gonna crash!"
"I know!"
But the same red echidna from the story beat the rock to species and it broke successfully so the plane was officially saved!
Tails gasped upon realizing who did it. "Knuckles!"
Knuckles didn't show any emotion at all and turned away from them. "Hphm."
"What's the matter with him?" Amy scoffed.
Tails was quiet before he knew why Knuckles was like that. I get it, now! He's worried about Y/N since she's not around!
"Overkill. Just like always," Knuckles bluntly said. Where are you, Y/N? Please be alright.
Later, that all changed when a white flash blurred everything.
