Huh?

Hiraiah woke up only to see darkness all around, as if she's in an endless void and is currently walking on nothingness.

She went on aimlessly, still feeling groggy due to the sudden accident she experienced a while ago; which now reminds her, where am I? she thought to herself, seeing the darkness and yet being in the darkness.

Hiraiah grumbled in complaint. "First of all, I experience a classic isekai hit. At least it's not a truck, but well, there is a truck involved---and now I wake up in something I'd call a dream but I don't feel like it's one," she said. "And why is Ren back in Country Phinne? Weird, he didn't even inform me, his closest-to-a-childhood-friend person, to pick him up at the airport! Tsk," Hiraiah clicked her tongue in frustration. "If this ain't supposed to be a dream, am I gonna presume I'm dead or not? But I'm sure my body is kind of fine..." she contemplated.

Huh?

Compatibility successful.

What? What's with my head now?

Initiation complete.

Initiation what?

4444th host is now temporarily merged with System 404A.

Realization dawned on Hiraiah. "Oh." she finally uttered out in shock. Should she be mad, happy, irritated, or ecstatic?

444th host, Hiraiah Minawari. Age, 26. Sex, female. No genetic diseases detected. No current illnesses detected---

"What the---?" Coming back to her senses, Hiraiah felt indescribable. In a not-so-positive way. "No, no, this is not happening," she muttered in distaste.

Current condition, body is physically shocked and injured. Body location, Sierra Medical, 4th floor, Room 4-1, Country Phinne.

Hiraiah knows what's happening, even though she's having a hard time believing it. Well, who would? Definitely not the rational Hiraiah who is realistic despite being an avid reader of fictional books.

I did wish to experience transmigration, it's kinda my favorite category of novels. But I didn't mean that, world-hopping is exhausting! I haven't even splurged my self-self budget! she cried inwardly. My money is wasted, my investments are all trashed, and now I bet I have to do missions for what, a thousand worlds?

Host is wrong, you only need to do a hundred worlds.

"Oh, so now you're actually talking to me," Hiraiah sarcastically replied. "I'm not doing this without anything in exchange." she said.

Well---

"I am not dead. Therefore, that is the reason that I only need to do a hundred worlds, because I don't need to collect a lot of whatever points since I don't have to reincarnate, right? And yes, even though time won't flow in here, technically, I would still experience a hundred lives, that's exhausting. Instead of just leaving me be unconscious, I have to suddenly do this,"

But---

"---and I'm not dumb. I know I can't refuse this, because you currently control my reality, whoever is behind you. So no, I won't do this without something in exchange," Hiraiah stubbornly demanded in one go.

Weirdly enough, Hiraiah does know what she is saying. Countless transmigration novels have already passed through her brain, how can she not? She'll find a loophole no matter what the System may say, because Hiraiah won't be Hiraiah if she doesn't get concrete benefits out of this.

Fine, the System conceded. What do you want?

If possible, Hiraiah's eyes are now sparkling brightly in mischievousness.

If the System has a body, he would've gulped in uncertainty.

"Well," Hiraiah started, "I want money. Simple, ain't it?"

Money?

"Yes. A billion dollars per successful world. Half a billion if I failed," she said.

I doubt you'd fail.

"I would if I'm bored," Hiraiah grinned. "What do you say? I'm not asking for much. A minor deity must be behind you, eh? don't tell me you can't give money," she said.

No, that's too much. A billion or even half a billion is too much.

"Well if I don't have to waste my time doing missions in random worlds my money would've grown billions now," Hiraiah coldly stated. "So pay up, or I'd purposely fail all worlds. That would lower your rank, no?"

How do you---

"I just know. A billion per success, a half billion if failed. Do we have a deal?"

Fine.

"I have another condition."

What is it this time? The System replied irritably. You humans are all greedy.

"Yeah, whatever. Anyways, my condition is I have to wake up in between worlds. Don't be stingy, you basically control my ability to be conscious in my physical body."

May I ask why?

"Of course, it's to check my bank account if you paid up or not."

You---

"Yes, yes, me. Now, wake me up and deposit a billion dollars in my account,"

Host, you haven't even started---

"Haven't heard of down payments? This is my third condition. It's your down payment. Down payment, get it? You're hiring me to do the dirty work to fix worlds. This is your down payment for my talent fee. Now, wake me up. I know Zoren has taken care of me and my body is in a good state now. You can tell me the mechanics of the game later," she demanded.

It's not a game, and---

"Shut up. Just shut up."

Call it rude, but Hiraiah is actually anxious that the System might spew out some kind of rules that would get in the way of her not losing anything in this deal. Yes, for her, this is a deal.

Who knows, what if the System already said beforehand some ridiculous dimension whatever rules of some god or whatever? Then she can't demand things easily. There's this unspoken rule that if you don't know what it is, no one told you, then it doesn't apply to you. Sounds stupid and an excuse for ignorance but Hiraiah believes in this---only for this encounter---as it would allow her to not get the shorter end of the stick. Waste my time, but I won't get any compensation? How funny, she thought.

Besides, she still doesn't know the intentions of the System, and the beings behind it. Hiraiah heavily suspects that they are involved with the weird accident she encountered. She semi-concluded that since it's rare for a truck to even pass by their community. The city has strict rules of where specific vehicles should go, and a truck passing by on a Wednesday morning isn't really a thing there. Well, it's kinda stupid to come up with that, but honestly, Hiraiah is the type to suspect anything, and is cautious or everything. It has its downsides, but well, how else would she be a multi billionnaire and a known investor at 26?

Rational with healthy boundaries, that's what Hiraiah is. Although she could get crazy sometimes with over analyzing everything if she puts her mind into it, she manages to have a healthy mental health---somewhat.

Whatever, Host. I asked my superiors, and I am now permitted to do what you asked for. Consciousness in 3, 2, 1...

Thud. Hiraiah felt like a boulder forcefully hit her head awake.
